🇨🇲🇳🇪CAFCC: Cotonsport records vital away win, draws nearer to group stage

Thierry Tchuente's goal takes cotonsport closer to the group stage

Cotonsport of Garoua has beaten AS SONIDEP of Niger 1#0 in the CAF Confederation Cup last preliminary round first leg game.

Coach Aboubakar Souleymanou lined up a strong starting XI for the cotonnites, with with six players just fresh from the African Nations championship, all starting. Felix Oukine, Hassana Mamadou, Narcisse Junior Nlend, Thierry Tchuente, Étamé François and Banga Bindjeme all started, together with veteran Daouda Kamilou, Sanou Sibiri, Bawak Etta Thomas, Souibou Marou and Lambert Areina Ngueme.

29_year_old Midfielder, Thierry Tchuente gave cotonsport the lead at the Seyni Kountche stadium in Niamey, with a half volley from a corner kick, at the 72nd minute of the game.

Both AS SONIDEP and cotonsport wasted several chances late in the second half, but the cotonnites stayed solid and return back to Cameroon with an important one goal lead.

The two sides will meet again in the return leg in Garoua on Sunday February 21, 2021, with cotonsport looking to secure a place in the group stage.

The cotonnites had previously eliminated Unisport Sokode of Togo, and Zambia’s Green Eagles.

Cotonsport is now just 90 minutes away from the group stage.
