The Goalkeeper for the Intermediate cranes of Uganda Alionzi Nafian Legason, has stated that his team is ready for the task that awaits them at the upcoming African Nations championship.
“We are ready for the task coming ahead. We will have to take game per game, to reach our main target. The first target is to progress from the group stage in the CHAN tournament, then we will look further into the next step“, Nafian told the press after Uganda’s training session on Thursday morning at the Annex 2 stadium in Yaoundé.
The Cranes will take part in a Pre_CHAN tournament in Cameroon, that runs from 01 to 07 January in Yaoundé. Nafian and his teammates will flex muscles against host Cameroon on new year’s day, and later on face Zambia and Niger.
“The energy is good, we are ready. We have prepared for long and the team is up to the task“, Nafian reacted when against about the atmosphere within the team.
The Cranes are paired in pool C alongside defending Champions Morocco, Rwanda and Togo. Nafian believes the Cranes have what it takes to pull through from what looks like a tough group.
“Definitely we will go through, with the chance and forces we have as a team, we will match them”
Coach Johnathan McKinstry will be have to choose between Alionzi Nafian Legason, Joel Mutakubwa and Tom Ikara, the three Goalkeepers at his disposal.
24_year_old Alionzi Nafian Legason brings much experience to McKinstry’s sides. The former Vipers SC goalie is currently in the books of URA SC, where he has featured in all of his sides five games this season in the Ugandan premier league, keeping two clean sheets, as URA SC currently sit second on the League’s table, behind UPDF.
