Intermediate lions left back Serge Andoulou, will not be available for selection for the remainder of the African Nations championship, according to multiple reports.
The 26_year_old limped off injured against the Stallions at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium last Sunday, just after the half an hour mark, and was replaced by Stade Renard’s Steve Roberto Kueni.
Though the Union of Douala wing back travelled with the rest of the squad to Douala where they will play DR Congo on Saturday in one of the quarter final games, CFOOT is reporting that after MRI test performed on the player, it was finally revealed that he has a partial rupture of the internal lateral ligament of the left knee. An injury which can take between four to six weeks before he can recover. This therefore signifies that Andoulou will not take part in the lions showdown on Saturday at the Japoma Stadium, against the Leopards of DR Congo and possibly the semi finals and final, should the lions solve the Congolese equation come Saturday.
Andoulou did not participate in the lions training session in Douala, on Tuesday morning.
No official statement has been made by the team officials as regards the latest on Serge Andoulou, but our sources within the team have confirmed early reports. It therefore means coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile will have to search for other options at left back.
Possible options for Ndtoungou Mpile
Coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile has two options to rely on at left back, in the absence of Serge Andoulou.
The tactician can either stick with Stade Renard’s Steve Roberto Kueni, though the former Titanic of Edea man has not yet impressed in the cameos he has had.
Many football pundits think it is the right time for the lion’s technical bench to turn to PWD’s reliable left back, Boung Joel Ondoa. Boung who will be 25 in July, has been a consistent player at club level, but have not been given playing time with the lions. He was an unused substitute against Burkina Faso, the very first time he featured on the match day Squad, since the start of the African Nations championship.
