CAIRO – 28 June 2021: Zamalek defeated Ittihad of Alexandria 84-80 to secure their 15th tittle in the fifth round of the play-offs, finishing the series 3-2 for their side and win the Egyptian Basketball League title.
Al Ittihad won the first game in the play-offs 83-56 but the whites bounced back to win the second game 80-70
Al Zamalek won the third game 74-69 to edge closer to the title before securing the Egyptian league title on Tuesday night.
Alexandrian side revived their chances by winning in the fourth game 81-79, only to then lose the decisive game.
Ittihad got in the lead 29-25 after the first quarter, before Zamalek came back to end the second quarter winning 48-42, then the Alexandrian side bounced to 67-62 at the end of the third.
However, they struggled at the beginning of the fourth half, and the fourth quarter ended in a 73-73 draw.
Going into extra time, Ittihad of Alexandria seemed nervy and the players made some naive mistakes, allowing the Whites to grab 84-80 lead and claim a hard-fought win.
The Whites won a record 15th Super League title ahead of Ittihad, who have 13 titles.
The 2020–21 just ended Egyptian Basketball Super League is the 47th season of the Egyptian Basketball Super League.
The champions Al Zamalek has qualify for the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) season.
