Premier League comfort zone a factor in Manchester City’s derby defeat, suggests Bernardo Silva

Published

on

Manchester City’s derby defeat can in part be attributed in part to being in a Premier League comfort zone, according to Bernardo Silva.

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva believes the comfort zone of their Premier League position may have contributed to a derby defeat against Manchester United that was “not acceptable”.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay saw City suffer a 2-0 loss to rivals United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It ensured United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed home and away league victories over City counterpart Pep Guardiola – the first time the Red Devils have done the double over their Manchester rivals for 10 years.

Second-placed City are 25 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool but have a seven-point cushion over Leicester City in third.

“The reality is the pressure is not on in the Premier League,” Silva told Sky Sports.

“We don’t have much pressure because we know that our position is not changing a lot because we will not get to the title.

“I think we will be second to qualify for the Champions League. So maybe that is a thing.”

After picking up 100 and 98 points in each of the last two seasons, City have suffered seven defeats this term and have just 57 points with 10 matches still to play.

“A team like ours cannot lose as many games in the Premier League as we have this season,” Silva added. “So, we need to check what is not going right and try to not make the mistakes.

“We have to watch the game back and listen to what Pep has to say.

“It was a bad game for us and, in my opinion, not acceptable.

“It’s a derby, it’s an important game for our fans, and it is not acceptable to play the way we did and lose 2-0.”

However, Silva felt the awarding of a free-kick that led to United’s opening goal, after Ilkay Gundogan was deemed to have fouled Bruno Fernandes, was an incorrect decision made by referee Mike Dean.

He added: “From my point of view, and from where I was, it was clear it was not a foul. I don’t know if on the television it is a foul or not.

“The referees like us, like all the players, can make mistakes. It’s football.”

Ghana’s Premier League may not be allowed to have fans back inside stadiums SHOULD the Government give greenlight for Football activities to resume per proposal submitted by the GFA’S Medical Committee to the GFA.

And per Ghana- Kumasi Base Radio Station Oyerepa FM Sports report,  Dr Adam Baba led committee have adviced the GFA as follows

The resumption should be gradual
-starting with the men premier league then the others(Division One,Women’s league etc) follow when convicted all is well. This is because if we take too much, it can overwhelm us

That all players, officials, coaches, referees and match commissioners undergo mandatory test*
-The FA must arrange for them to be tested at various laboratories. They were identified into High and low risk groups
-The High risk group comprised of referees, match commissioners and technical persons who have close contact with players.

A plan that could see all matches for the remainder of the season played in empty stadiums
-The only persons to be admitted will be the press to cover the games and most of the matches shown live on TV.
-Those that can’t be shown live should be shown immediately after the matches not to make supporters miss the game so much.

Speaking to Oyerepa FM Sports, the Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Medical Committee Dr Adam Baba said.

”To cancel or continue will all depend on the dynamics of the pandemic. As the medical committe of the GFA, we were asked for a proposal on the best practices SHOULD the Government give the go ahead to resume Football activities and our advice was based on the records of the pandemic, the death and recovery rates and cases recorded.
All that we are doing will hinge around the Ghana Health Service’s final approval, the go ahead or could tell us to wait for a while”

Rashford edging closer to full fitness: I feel 10 times better now

Published

on

He has been out since mid-January but Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford says he is edging closer to a return to training.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is in a “much better place” than a month ago as he nears a return to full fitness.

Rashford has been out since mid-January due to a back injury, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying earlier this month the club would not rush his comeback.

The England international is making good progress, though, and suggests he will be ready to resume training once the squad are cleared to go back to work after the coronavirus pandemic.

“I feel much better,” Rashford told Sky Sports News. “I have a scan in another couple of days and that should solidify it, but I feel much better compared to two or three weeks ago.

“I feel 10 times better now. For me, now it’s just about getting ready to build back up to training and then playing games for the team.

“I’m in a much better place. I’m much happier than I was about a month ago, so things are looking positive.”

Rashford says his recent rehabilitation has been carried out at home due to the restrictions put in place to control the impact of COVID-19.

“Everyone is just dealing with the circumstances as well as they can,” he added.

“I’ve just been in my house doing my gym work and recovery, reading books, watching Netflix and just doing what I can do to make the time pass further.

“There’s not really anything you can do that comes close to being in the changing room and being in the team, so I’m not trying to chase that high.

“I had to have time off anyway because of my injury, but I’m fortunate enough to have a bike in the gym downstairs. Not much in that sense has actually changed for me because I can still do my daily routine that I was doing.”

Rashford is also heading up a campaign for the FareShare charity, which aims to raise £100,000 to help supply food to children who usually have free school meals but are currently unable to access them.

“I didn’t know how high the numbers were of kids not eating at home other than school meals. That number kind of shocked me,” Rashford said.

“And then I remember speaking to a friend who was saying there was an opportunity where we can help these people and FareShare allowed us to make it work.

“I don’t think I’ve actually ever done something at such short notice before. I thought let’s try and get to £100,000 and right now we’re on £97,000.”
