From Eavesdrops and some documents tiptoeing on several social media platforms, Elite One leaders PWD of Bamenda and Eding Sport FC have been proposed as Cameroon’s representatives on continental assignment, to the Prime Minister by the Cameroon F.A.
On Tuesday, March 17, the hands of FECAFOOT President Seidou Mbombo Njoya were tight as he had to halt all FECAFOOT, run tourneys due to government’s measures to curb the Covid-19 pandemic which has acted as an adverse effect not just to Cameroon, but, Africa and the world.
Stakeholders of the ‘beautiful game’ in the country gathered on CAF’s dateline (May 5,) given to member associations to communicate on whether their leagues’ will continue.
From inside sources, this reporter gathered that FECAFOOT had to leave the decision late due to desperately high stakes of all clubs involved in the top-flight championships.
“Football is not the priority in the current situation”
After the meeting, president Seidou Mbombo Njoya made these statements in his press outing:”Football is not the priority in the current situation. Football is secondary. We will make the decisions when it is necessary to make them. We have all the scenarios and all the options ready. We have informed CAF and FIFA. What is a priority for us today is what we are doing right now: helping footballers or preparing for the future. Yes! These are the things that occupy us right now. We will make other decisions when the government has made in favourable decisions in relation to the fight against the CoronaVirus pandemic. Let’s stop getting carried away. ”
It is certain that a decision has been arrived at, and sent to appropriate quarters but the FECAFOOT boss has decided to stay incommunicado concerning an out-and-out answer on the issue.
In the midst of the heat, PWD and Eding Sport FC seemed to be the best possible options to represent the nation, while the Cameroon leagues most certainly looks to be pronounced done and dusted with, anytime soon.
After 28 games, PWD are topping the chart with 47 points, a game lesser than Cotonsport who lost their advanced day 29 clash against Eding Sport FC.
PWD are the most likely to play the CAF champions League. For the Confederation Cup, last two seasons representative Eding Sport FC comes into the picture.
With the intrigues surrounding the second spot; Cotonsport having played more games than closest rivals Colombe, who believe they deserve a chance, stakeholders are looking elsewhere, for there to be some peace and quiet between those two.
Looking equally at the somewhat unsatisfactory performance and financial crisis of last season’s CAF confederation cup representatives, Stade Renard, the best option that pops up is Eding.
Despite not having clocked a decade of existence, Eding Sport have reached the nation’s pinnacle of football with a burgeoning medal table, as they have won the Cameroon cup and Elite One titles already.
Headed by their enthusiastic president Saint Fabien Mvogo, there were hardly any iota of complaints as per finance, during the two spells the club represented the nation on the continent.
Eding Sport are currently 10th on the table with 38 points despite not starting the campaign in fine fertile as they’d have loved.
JP Nsame: Goal poacher breaks Eto’o record with final match day brace in Swiss League
The 27 year-old scored twice in Young Boy’s 3-1 win over St Gallen in the last playing day of the Swiss Super League staged on Monday August 4, 2020.
Playing at the Stade de Suisse in front of the president of world football governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, the former SC Angers and Servette FC forward found the back of the net at the 14th and 22nd minutes respectively.
Jean Pierre Nsame’s first goal came after the goal poacher brilliantly outplayed St Gallen’s keeper with a body move following a long pass from central midfielder Gianluca Gaudinho before slotting into an empty net.
His second of the night was a well calculated drive of Janko Saidy’s pass at the edge of the penalty box, beating Ghanaian born goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
Two goals that helped the Swiss capital city club clinch a 3-1 win following a 68th minute increase of tally by fellow Cameroonian Moumi Ngamaleu.
The win confirmed the team’s supremacy as they clinched their 3rd consecutive league title and overall 14th.
Monday’s brace by Nsame saw the forward break a Cameroonian goal scoring record of 30 goals in a single season in Europe held by Samuel Eto’o since the 2008/2009 season as he moved to 32 goals in 29 league matches. It also broke the record of highest goal scored in a Super League season.
He now count 38 goals scored in 43 matches combined this season including 4 in the Swiss Cup and 2 in the Europa League.
Nsame who will be rounding-off his season in the days ahead with matches in the Swiss Cup where they face FC Luzern this weekend at the quarter finals, will be looking forward to a possible transfer following rumors linking him to numerous clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Everton and Rangers. His current contract ties him at the club till June 30, 2023.

Jean Pierre Nsame Equals Eto’o’s record.
Jean Pierre Nsame is Africa’s best striker of this 2019-2020 season with 30 goals in 30 games equalling Eto’o s record (30 goals scored during the 2008/2009 season with FC Barcelona. ) of Cameroonian player with the best scoring record in a European championship. With 2 playing days to go, Jean Pierre Nsame still has the chance to beat this record.
What next for Nsame:
Jean Pierre Nsame he has suitors all around Europe and at 27 pundits recommend him to go for a greater challenge in one of the top 5 European championships. A middle table club in the EPL for example can be a good choice in order to have much playing time and rise to challenge the best strikers of Europe.
It’s surprising that he has just 1 caps with the indomitable lions of Cameroon and still pulling his legs when it concerns national duty.
With such a record, much will henceforth be expected of him by the Cameroonian football managers and fans to rekindle a team which has only scored 1 goal in its last 3 games played after the 2019 AFCON.
