tanzania premeir league resumes
  • The Tanzania Premier League was suspended on March 17 amidst COVID 19 Pandemic
  • The league may return in 15th of June and will be playing in one Region
  • Simba SC was leading the race at the top of the championship with 71 points after 28 playing days, 17 points clear of runner’s up Azam FC

The National Sports Council, Football federation and Premier league board, with consultation of TFF health committee and Federation secretariat committee sat to discuss the possible return of the Tanzania Premier League and the format to adopt upon resumption.

This meeting comes after a public statement from Tanzania’s President H.E John Pombe Magufuli this weekend, exposing the state of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country and insisting on the resumption of  activities without Lockdown.

“We have to take all measures, but we must work hard. We don’t expect Lockdown here. We must produce more, and if the status will be in good trend after a week, I can allow even football matches to be played again”

Main Agenda of the meeting was how to play Home and away games or all games in one centre; all of this will depends on final statement from President Magufuli.

Unconfirmed reports say that the league may return by June 15th and will be played in one Region (Dar es salaam) as a main centre.

Expected stadiums to be used are National stadium, Chamazi Complex, Bunju Complex, Uhuru and Karume. All  games to be played behind the closed doors.

The Corona Viruses has affected the world in all aspects of life. On March 17th, Tanzania Prime Minister Majaliwa Khassim Majaliwa announced the stop of all sports activities in the country.

This decision was taken to alleviate the spread of covid 19 that was spreading in the country, leading to loss of life.

Bakari shime

In Direct communication on Youth football development in Tanzania, Former U17 Tanzanian national team (Serengeti boys) Head Coach, Bakari shime who participated in the 12th Edition of AFCON in 2017 Gabon affirmed that to have good players we must consider uplifting the physicality of our players.

In an exclusive interview to Mysoccer24.com, Shime insists on the fact that body build up will help Tanzania compete with other teams and increase Tanzania’s chances to participate in various international competitions.

” …as we see here, we have many players with great potential but our physical conditions are not good enough to compete with others.  We must consider  that it that can help us to compete and even to get chances to play in Europe “ shime said.

He is also made reference of the Serengeti boys’ 2017 squad in Gabon and said most of them are playing in Senior teams of the Tanzanian Premier League because they had the physical fitness which permitted them to cope.

Shime who is current head coach of the Tanzanian Women national teams argued that opponent nations especially from West Africa qualify more for international competitions because of their physical strength.

Talking about the narrow chances of a European career for Tanzanian young players, he said,

“We must increase our participation in Afcon and World cup. It’s there that we will show our potential and world scouts will take us because even those West African countries sometimes even cheat over the ages of their players in order to qualify for the international competitions and use it as a platform to enter Europe”

Tanzania has twice qualified for the U17 AFCON  (First was in 2017 in Gabon and lately in 2019 when they were host )
