One of Uganda’s most celebrated football icons, Jimmy Kirunda has died aged 70 years.
Kirunda who captain Uganda to their only Africa Cup of Nations final appearance in 1978 is believed to have collapsed and died in Bwaise, Kampala this Monday 25 May 2020
He played for Express FC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, and Abu Dhabi Sports in the United Arab Emirates.
He played for the Uganda Cranes at three AFCON tournaments, captaining them in three editions including the historical 78 edition in Ghana.

He managed several club sides including SC Villa, Bell FC, KCCA FC, Buikwe Red Stars, and Cooperative FC.
Kirunda was also a coach of the Uganda Cranes between 1989 and 1996.

Uganda Girls U17 National team has officially kicked off preparations for COSAFA U17 Championship with a single training session on Sunday evening at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
30 players attended the training that was conducted by the head coach Ayub Khalifa and his assistant Hadijah Namuyanja.
The squad will be reduced to 20 players that will travel to Mauritius on 18th September for the tournament.
‘We have officially begun training at the FUFA Technical Centre. All the players we summoned have shown up. We shall select 20 best players that will represent the country in Mauritius’ said Head Coach Ayub
According to the camping program, there will be two build-up matches on Wednesday 11th September and Sunday 15th September.
The team is expected to have 10 camping days before flying to Mauritius for the Championship.
Uganda is in group A and will play the first game on 20th September with Zambia, Mauritius on 22nd September and Comoros in the last group Match.

Uganda FA part ways with Paa Kwasi Fabian
Ghanaian Coach Samuel Paa Kwasi Fabian by mutual agreement parted ways with the Uganda U-17 National team.
The trainer in March this year, signed on as the new tactician for the Ugandan U-17 and U-20 National team with a one year contract.
Meanwhile, both parties thus the Ugandan FA and Paa Kwasi Fabian has in one fate agreed to end the relationship.
The 60-year-old gaffer led the team to the under 17 AFCON this year, were they accumulated just 4 points. They lost 1-0 to Angola, beat Tanzania 3-0, and managed a draw against Nigeria (1-1) to miss a slot to qualify for the under 17 world cup in Brazil.
He coached Ghana where he guided them to silver ware at the 2017 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Gabon and to the
quarter-finals of the Fifa U-17 World Cup in India same year.
Prior to handling the Uganda National team, he managed clubs like Hearts of Lions, Inter Allies FC, Hearts of Oak.
Asante Kotoko SC was his last club career.
