Cameroon Football Legend Samuel Eto’o explains the difference between being coached by Pep Guadiola and Jose Mourinho.

Published

on

Former Cameroon goal accountant Samuel Eto’o have made a clear difference between being coached by Pep Guadiola and Jose Mourinho.

The Cameroon Football Legend is one of great footballers to have played under the two great coaches.

The old time Afcon goal scorer played under Pep Guadiola in the 2008/09 season and later played for Mourinho with Inter Milan and Chelsea.

With Eto’o’s relationship with both coaches,  the four time African player of the year preferred Mourinho’ more personal touch as a manager over current Man City boss Pep Guadiola.

The former Barcelona forward stated that he enjoyed working under Pep Guadiola the coach, but not so much Guadiola the person.

Pep Guadiola giving instructions to Eto’o

“I stick to what I said, and I’m not the only person who has said it”, Eto’o told Marca

“My experience with Pep at Barcelona was what it was, but on a personal level it wasn’t what we hoped for. Many players have said the same about him.

“As a coach, Pep prepares games like no body else. How he coached us in 2009 was incredible,  his way of seeing attacking football,  control, having the ball, rondos,  Pep was the best at that.

“For me, football is feeling like you’re in a theatre,  and seeing tikitaka, passing the ball, its not the only way to win but its special.  Its Pep’s way”.

But there is a contrast when it comes to Mourinho as Eto’o insist that the Portuguese is a much warmer figure than he is often portrayed as.

Mourinho giving instructions to Eto’o.

“Jose is, firstly, a friend”, Eto’o confirmed.

“He’s a person who’s upfront and when he doesn’t like something,  he tells you. We both have strong temperaments and we understand each other well.

“He’s one of the best people I have found in football.  People try to present him as controversial,  but its a lie. What happens is that life, and football,  is hypocritical and they prefer that to having honest people.

“The other thing is that he only cares about the results. It’s his way of seeing football and in that sense he is the number one.

“He’s a winner and a born leader.  He spoke to you with the right words. He’s great”.

The four time champions league winner won a treble with Pep Guadiola while at Barcelona including the UEFA champions league in the 2008/09 season and won the same treble the following season with Inter Milan under Jose Mourinho.
