Hakim Ziyech arrives at Stamford Bridge for first time to watch his Chelsea teammates

Published

on

After becoming a Blues player this month the 27-year-old has been training at Cobham.

Hakim Ziyech has arrived at Stamford Bridge this evening to watch his Chelsea teammates for the first time since becoming a Blues player.

The Moroccan officially became a Chelsea man and has made the move over to London after quarantine rules were lifted.

Ziyech has been at Chelsea’s training ground at Cobham, training on his own as he gets ready for the 2020/21 season.

It has been a very long break for the 27-year-old, who hasn’t played a match since March 7 due to the COVID-19 pandemic meaning that the Eredivisie was suspended.

Despite having arrived in England, Ziyech is not able to play for the Blues yet as he is not registered for the 2019/20 campaign.

However, after training on his own at Cobham, he is in attendance for the big Premier League match against Norwich City.

With three matches to go in the Premier League, Chelsea remain third in the table despite their 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United at the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Canaries were officially relegated from the top flight at the weekend after they were battered 4-0 by West Ham United.

Pierre Aubameyang: Gabon’s captain powers Arsenal to European football with FA Cup performance

Gabonese Pierre Emerick Aubameyang helped Arsenal win the 2019/2020 English FA Cup trophy after scoring twice for the Gunners against Chelsea on Saturday August 1, 2020 at the Wembley Stadium

Published

on

Playing his 109th game for the London outfit in what football pundits predicted will be the Gabonese’s last match for Arteta and Arsenal, the 31 year old Gunners captain showed class and determination to perform despite transfer rumors.

After seeing his side concede early on into the game through a Christian Pulisic 5th minute strike, the ex-Borrussia Dortmund man brought parity to the game from the penalty spot at the 28th minute after a fowl on him by Blue’s captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Gabonese and Gunners captain showed yet another level of class and beauty in the second segment with a 67th minute finish after making a shift run and dribbling past 2 Chelsea’s defenders before slotting in over helpless Willy Caballero to put scores at 2-1 for manager Mikel Arteta and squad. This, helping Arsenal earn its 14th FA Cup title and a place in next season’s Europa League football [Europe’s second most coveted club competition] alongside his Ivorian African brother Nicolas Pepe.

Saturday’s FA Cup triumph did not only come as an honor to prevent a trophy-less season for Arsenal but also served as an indirect determiner on Aubameyang’s future at the club. The former AC Milan and Saint Etienne forward who has netted 70 goals in 109 matches for the Gunners, have entered the final year of his contract for Arsenal with his current contract to expire on June 31, 2020. He is still to accept a contract extension despite offers from the club.

A situation, football experts including England’s Alan Shearer opines is risky for the club, failing to renew the contract of a player as important as Aubameyang to Arsenal who scored 22 goals in the 2019/2020 Premier League season, falling one goal short of Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy. It is expected the FA Cup win will convince him to stay at the Emirates ground for a while.

Lazio’s Ciro Immobile set to join an exclusive club as the highest-scoring player in Europe this season

Published

on

Ciro Immobile

In a decade dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the underrated Italian is near assured of winning the European Golden Shoe for the continent’s top scorer.

From Messi, to Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Braut Haaland, nobody in Europe has managed to keep pace with the Naples-born player.

Immobile overtook Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski with his 35th goal against Brescia midweek, and will close his campaign against Napoli on Saturday.

Juventus star Ronaldo, on 31 goals, is four behind before the Serie A champions’ final game against Roma in Turin, in which he may not even play with the Champions League looming.

It would not be the first time that 30-year-old Immobile has topped the Serie A goal-scoring charts, having won the ‘Capocannoniere’ twice before in 2014 and 2018.

But he would become just the third Italian winner of the European Golden Shoe after Roma’s Francesco Totti (26) in 2007 and Luca Toni for Fiorentina in 2006 (31).

Another two goals on Saturday would also see him surpass Gonzalo Higuain’s Serie A record of 36 goals, set playing for Napoli in the 2015-16 season.

“I am only sorry that I cannot celebrate these numbers with the fans,” said Immobile, nicknamed ‘King Ciro’ in the capital, but whose career before arriving in Rome had been erratic.

Success has not followed onto the national team, where he has scored ten goals in 39 games, taking the brunt of criticism after Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Immobile started his career at Juventus, where he made just three appearances before a breakthrough loan season in 2011-2012 at Pescara where his 28 goals lifted the Serie B side into the top flight.
