AFCON 2021: Group D, Nigeria & Egypt Progress To The Round Of 16

Nigeria and Egypt have booked their place in the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa cup of nations following wins over Guinea Bissau and Sudan respectively.
The Super Eagles beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 as they continue a 100% start to the competition, by winning all three group games.
Umar Sadiq opened the scoring few minutes into the half-time break following an assist from Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored the lone goal as Egypt in their first outing.
Then captain William Troost-Ekong sealed all three points for the super eagles, as they become the only team to win all three group games.
The three time champions have already booked their place in the round of 16; but finishing top of the table was a stake.
They will have to wait until Thursday night to find out which of the best third place teams they face either from group B, E, or F.
For Guinea Bissau, they have now gone over Seven AFCON games without a goal, last scoring their second match of 2017 finals when the bow out of the tournament.
Sudan 0-1 Egypt
Egypt also booked their place in the round of 16 following a 1-0 over Sudan in their last group game of the ongoing AFCON.
Mohammed Abdelmonem scored the lone goal of the game to send the Pharaohs to the round of 16.
Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah came close to score the second for Egypt, but saw his efforts saved by the Sudanese goalkeeper, Ali Abu Eshrein in the second half.
Egypt qualify as runner up with six points, three behind Winners Nigeria.
Sudan on their part, finished the tournament with one point and one goal scored.
