AFCON 2021: Ibrahima Kone Scores As Mali Defeats Tunisia In Group F Opener.

Mali have defeated Tunisia 1-0 in their group F opener at the Limbe Omnisports stadium. A 45 minute penalty from Ibrahima Kone ensured Mali grab all three points.

The Malians were the better side in the opening minutes of the game as Moussa Djenepo benefited from a loose ball from Falaye  Sacko, but the former’s shot was blocked by Tunisian defender Dylan Daniel  for the first corner of the game.

Captain Hamari Traore and his teammates continue their superiority complex with brilliant inter passing from the lights of Adama Traore, Ibrahima Kone, and Moussa Djenepo but no fruits were achieved.

Ibrahima Kone and Bilel Ifa collide after both players scramble for a set piece, but the two players were declared OK after a medical check.

Tunisia themselves had a set piece to created something out of it, but Saint Etienne’s Wahbi Khazri’s cross went wide.

Hamari Traore received the first yellow card of the game after a harsh tackle on a Tunisian defender at the 18th minute.

Mali ones again had a big chance as Massadio Haidara shot went wide at the 40 minute. It was the first real  shot on goal for Mali in the game.

Wahbi Khazri who has 4 goals for French ligue 1 side, Saint Etienne had a big opportunity, but his shot was blocked by a Malian defender.

The second half was not different as the Eagles continue the dominance in the game. A confused Tunisian defense as the ball hits Ellyes Joris’ s hand in the penalty box, and Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe pointed to the spot.

Ibrahima Kone stepped up as he sent Ben Said the wrong to give the 1972 finalist the lead at the 45th minute.

In response, Star man Wahbi Khazri had a brilliant chance from a freekick, but was saved by Mali’s goalkeeper Bosso Ibrahim.

Shortly after that, Ellyes  Joris had a chance to level scores from a set piece from Ali Maalool, but his header could not find the target.

Mali’s Adama Traore was substituted after sustaining an arm string injury. Yves Bissouma replaced him.

Tunisia’s Dylan Daniel had a great shot at the 68th minute,  but the Malian goalkeeper was there to make a save, as it resulted to a corner.

Tunisia protest for a penalty, after Haidara handled the ball in the penalty box. This resulted to a VAR check, as the referee moves to the VAR monitor and his verdict was a penalty.

Saint Etienne’s Wahbi Khazri stepped up, but his penalty was saved by Bosso Ibrahima who has been brilliant throughout the game.

Drama at the end as substitute, El Bilal  Toure was shown a straight red card after a harsh tackle on Dylan Daniel at the 87th minute.

Despite being one man down, Ibrahima Kone’s goal was enough to see the Eagles of Mali take all three points.
