AFCON 2021: Sofiane Boufal Late Goal Cripple’s Ghana In Yaounde

Morocco and Ghan kick start their group C game at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium one of the oldest stadiums in Cameroon.


Ghana started its campaign believe to make it three wins out of five outings. History holds it that these two teams have been in contest 12 times before today and Morocco has always proved it superior in football against Ghana with 5 wins


Coach Milovan Rajevac has managed five games with three wins and a draw since taking over as Ghana head coach ensured his team inculcates his 4-4-2 formation.

Ghana start the game on a good footing with two early corners but the setpieces were not converted.

At the 12minutes of play, Morocco Zakaria almost corrected a defensive error from the Ghana defense but his shot was well saved by goalkeeper Joseph Luke

Morocco losing ball possession cheaply almost cost them damage after Adam Masina borough down Paintsil Joseph who was on a swift attack to give his team surely an opener. VAR slept in this case and Adam Masina was penalised with a yellow card.

Jordan Pierre Ayew at the 31st minutes of play tried two break in between two Moroccan defense but Ghanem Saiss brought him down just at the edge of the 18 yard out for a free kick that was shot off target by the Arsenal Middfieder Thomas

The two teams displayed their share of the first segment but Morocco dominated possession of 62% with their many passes but poorly for both team only one shot on target for Morocco and no shot on target for Ghana

The second half started with the same slow start as the first half with sloppy passes from both teams but Morocco continued with it’s one-touch passes to gain more possession

The two teams missed several opportunities from close range but Ghana through Andre Morgan Ayew almost get the opener for Ghana through a header but the Yassine Bounou made sure he keep his team in the match with a smart save that led to a corner

Ghana increased their tempo of play with with 18minutes to full time and it nearly paid off when Paintsil Joseph shot from a rebound but Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a clear save to deny the black stars an opener in Yaounde

Morocco break the deadlock at the 83 minutes with a world-class finish from Sofiane Boufal to give Morocco the lead

Coach Milivan Rajevac made two changes bringing on Daniel Kafi and Benjamin Tetteh to re-enforce his side to get an equalizer but the damage had already been caused due to sloppy style of play
