Cape Verde and Burkina Faso meet Wednesday at the Paul Biya stadium in the second week of play of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The teams come into play with mixed moods as Cape Verde opened their campaign with all three points, while Burkina Faso look to recover from a loss against Cameroon

Burkina Faso were narrowly beaten by host Cameroon on Sunday in Group A at Olembe Stadium.

Kamou Malo’s men opened the scoring after 24 minutes with Gustavo Sangare, before Vincent Aboubakar turned two penalties in the space of eight minutes to turn the game around.

It was the first loss in nine games for the Stallions, who have little time to recover before a crucial clash in Yaoundé.

The West Africans will face an opposing team in a back-to-back losing streak in this game after winning each of their first three fights.

Having not lost consecutive matches in competition for more than two years, Burkina Faso will come to their senses to put their CAN journey back on track with a positive result in it.

Cape Verde took out the Ethiopian threat with a 10-minute victory on Sunday to get off to a perfect start.

Julio Tavares was the star of the show when he opened the scoring at the edge of half-time to give all of Pedro Brito’s men three points.

The Blue Sharks have won four of their last five games in all competitions since their 2-1 loss to Nigeria last September.

A place in the knockout stage is now a nod behind four consecutive exits from the group stage and Cape Verde will be aiming to get the job done as quickly as possible.

Team News

Cape Verde had to go without the services of 11 of 28 players last time around, nine of whom tested positive for COVID19.

Winner Julio Tavares on Sunday saw him climb to fourth in his country’s all-time scorecard and the forward is now eight goals away from first place.

Bertrand Traoré recently became the last Burkina Faso player to make 60 international caps, while only eight of his compatriots in history have played multiple times.

Abdoul Tapsoba, 20, could be benched for it after showing signs of rust on his first start since returning from injury.

Cape Verde possible starting lineup:
Rosa; Stopira, Lopes, S. Fortes; D. Tavares, Santos, Borges, J. Fortes; Rodrigues, J. Tavares, Monteiro

Burkina Faso possible starting lineup:
Koffi; Malo, Yago, Dayo, Kabore; Toure, Guira, Sangare; Konate, Bayala, Traore

Cape Verde 1️⃣ – 1️⃣ Burkina Faso

Cape Verde recognise that heading off defeat right here might positioned them in pole role to make it via to the final 16, even as Burkina Faso may be determined to return back away with all 3 points. We count on a feisty and worrying affair with each groups having to accept a factor apiece.
