Ghana got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign up and running as they square off against Gabon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Friday.

Gabon kept their TotalEnergies Africa cup of Nation hopes alive on Friday night after Ghana failed to keep Andre Morgan Rami Ayew first quarter goal till the end with a die minute equalizer from Jim Emilien Ngowet

Ghana came in the game looking to right their wrong after a dismal performance at their opening game in Group C against Morocco with a slide 1-0 defeat with Milovan Rajevac made just one change to his side bringing in Daniel Kafi Kyereh for Gideon Mensah for a 4-3-3 for to defend and to attack

Coach Patrice Jean who was still without his captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made two changes from the side that edge Comoros last time out.

The game was physical for both teams with Gabon trying to keep a clean sheet and Ghana playing attacking football to have an early goal

At 5th minutes of the game Ghana with a high spirit football with a super shot from Daniel Kafi but his shot was blocked by a full force Gabon defense

Ghana continued with their attacking threat and at the 19th minute Arsenal midfielder Thomas Teye Partey with a high profile ball control to Andre Morgan Rami Ayew who disposed off the defense with a shot of the century to open scoring for the black stars

The goal for Ghana gave them an added push to go in for more goals with a more speedy football through Andre Ayew who was brought down by Bruno Ecuele Manga who was eventually penalized with a yellow card

Gabon tried to come back in the game with some shots on goal but goalkeeper Joseph Luke was steady enough to make most of the save

Gabon dominated a fair share of ball possession with 56% but was not clinical with their finish and so it was halftime with Ghana on the advantage with a goal ahead

HALFTIME

The second half began with a pale copy as the first with a lot of physical strength from both teams trying to get rid of one another

Coach Patrice Jean of Gabon decided to change his attacking formation by bringing in Brighton forward Jim Emilien Ngowet to replace St Etienne forward Denis Bouanga

The battle for supremacy continued with Gabon threatening to offset Ghana’s hope of progressing to the knock out stages with quick football but Ghana goalkeeper kept Gabon’s strikers in the dark with some super save to keep his first clean sheet of the game

At the 63rd minutes Gabon near equaliser when Louis Ameka with a brilliant shot from close range but goalkeeper Josephp Luke Wallacot against with another save

Just when Ghana fans began hailing their team for a first win of the tournament, coach Patrice Jean substitute Jim Emilien Ngowet equalized for Gaban from a flip cross by Guelor Kanga to spoil the celebration for Ghana

The black Stars took on the referee requesting for a VAR check but the Angolan referee Lahlou Benbraham validated the goal

With Morocco already qualified for the knock-out stages and Gabon totaling four points, it’s now let for the last group games to determine the fate of Gabon and Ghana with Gabon to host Morocco and Ghana to host Comoros
