AFCON2021:Tunisia Bounce Back And Demolish Mauritania 4-0 In Limbe

Tunisia recovered from the controversial Africa Cup of Nations opening defeat by knocking out Mauritania 4-0 in Group F.

With the African Cup in full swing, Tunisia and Mauritania were on head to head on Sunday at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium in Group F.

Both nations, who failed to get a win their opener against Mali and Gambia went to the battleground desperate for all three points following their poor start of the campaign

Coach Mondher Kbaier of Tunisia made three changes from his side that lost to Mali on Wednesday bring in Seifeddine Jaziri for Naim Sliti who pick up an injury in their first game, Ghaylen Chaleli came in for Aissa Bilal Laidouni and Anis Ben Slimane who had just 24 minutes replace Hannibal Megbri at the midfield to form a 4-3-3 system different from the 3-4-3 formation in the first game.

Coach Gomes Da Rosa of Mauritania decided to made just one change from his last team with the introduction Idrissa Thiam in place of Ba Papa Ibnou to add some flesh in his attack and opted for a 5-4-1 formation

With the attendance at 60% the Egyptian referee Mahmoud Elbana get the match going with the Al-Murabitun in control of the ball that never lasted for a long time possession was lost by a shaky midfield and Tunisia through Ellyes Joris with a beautiful control that led to a shot from Seifeddine Jaziri that was block by the defense of Mauritanian leaving right back Hamza Mathlouthi to score on the rebound at the 4th minutes to give the Tunisian an early lead

Mauritania gave too many loose balls that inflicted pains on their fan when Anis Ben Slimane gave a super pass to Wahbi Khazri who made no error and put the ball at the back of the net to make it two for Tunisia at the 9th minute of play

Coach Gomes Day Rosa made an early substitution taken off Abeid Aly a defender and borough in a midfielder Mohamed Soueid to go back to his preferred 5-3-2 formation

Both teams struggled for possession for the rest of the game but Tunisia dominated a fear share of possession with 57% and 4 shot on target to close the first Quarter

The second quarter began with Gomes Day Rosa making a change taken of his Captain Aboubakar Kamara and introducing Le Havre forward Ba Papa Ibnou to try and reduce the deficit

The Al-Murabitun began pressing deep and controlling things at the level of the midfield but could not still find an opener as all their effort on goal went just wide

60 minutes on Coach Gomes Day Rosa decided to rest one midfielder and an attacker to bring in a fresh leg at the midfield and the attack to get an equalizer with Sidi Yacoub and Hemeya Tanji for Mohamed Dellah Yaly respectively

In the quest for Gomes men seeking for a goal to come back in the game, the Tunisians came back in the game powerfully when Mauritania lose possession at the middle of the park and Tunisia corrected their error with a third goal from captain Wahbi Khazri at the 64th minute his second of the night

Another mistake from Gomes men at the middle of the park gave Tunisia their 4th goal of the campaign just two minutes after the third goal that was well converted by Seifeddine Jaziri

Mauritania could not believe what was happening for a campaign they started in a good footing ending with the worst nightmare

In the 70th minute, Tunisia almost made 5 through Saif Eddine but goalkeeper Diop Babacar with a super save to deny Tunisia forward his second goal of the tournament

Not too long Egyptian referee Mahmoud Elbana awarded Tunisia a penalty at the hour mark but substitute Youssef Msakni penalty was saved by goalkeeper Diop Babacar

Didier Gomes Da Rosa’s men could not end their dry spell and get their campaign up and running but ended the campaign in a disgraceful manner

Meanwhile, Tunisia have kept their hope of making it to the round of 16th and the last game against Gambia will be a decider
