André Onana sends cryptic message about his Ajax Amsterdam future

Onana's message on instagram sparked widespread reaction from Supporters of Ajax Amsterdam

Andre Onana’s future at Ajax Amsterdam is still up in the air, and his recent social media activities have send football lovers and Ajax Amsterdam fans into meltdown.

The Cameroonian International goalie on Sunday evening wrote on his Instagram page;

Six years have passed since the beginning of a great dream. Proud to be part of this family and to have lived such beautiful moments”.

“Thank you so much to our incredible Supporters and Ajax Amsterdam. The journey continues”, he concluded with a Love and thank you emoji, seemingly a sort of a goodbye message.

Another school of thought holds that the shot stopper might be nearing a contract extension with the club, but nothing is clear as at now.

The message from the former Barcelona trainee was liked amongst others by Dutch legend, Edwin van der Sar, who is currently sporting director at Ajax. A cross section of Ajax fans flooded the post with comments, begging Onana to stay at the club for a further six years, while others simply described him as “The boss”.

24_year_old Onana joined the Dutch club in 2015, and signed a new contract with Ajax in March 2019, until June 2022. With about a year still left on his contract at the club, there is a possibility Onana could follow the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie De Jong, Donnny Van De Beek and Hakim Ziyech out of the club.

In the summer transfer window, he was heavily linked to a series of top European clubs, such as Chelsea, PSG and even Barcelona. With a new transfer window opened in Europe since January 01, 2021, Onana’s social media activities only come to fuel more speculations about his future at Ajax Amsterdam.

The shot stopper is currently in Cameroon on break, and visited the intermediate lions shortly after their one all draw against Uganda on Friday.
