CAF Champions League Final: Facts to Remember.

Al Ahly beat Zamalek 2-1 in the CAF Champions League final on Friday November 27 to clinch their ninth champions league crown in over seven years.

After investing close to 36 million $ in the last seven years, the Red Devils finally got their target under Pitso Mosimane who was appointed head coach in September.

Some facts to be remembered after the final. 

-Pitso Mosimane became only the third coach to win the champions league with two different clubs ( Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017 and Al Ahly in 2020), he joins the likes of Argentine Oscar Fullone who won it with ASEC Mimosas and Raja Casablanca and Egypt’s Mahmoud El Gohary with Al Ahly and Zamalek.

-Al Ahly won their ninth crown in seven years, four more than any other club in the competition’s history.

-Egypt is the most successful MA in the competition with 15 winners, four more than any other MA in the continent.

-Al Ahly are unbeaten in nine champions league games against Zamalek (6 wins and 3 draws), winning all three knockout contests.

-Zamalek had the lion share of possession in the final with 51.7 % and this is the second time in the last 12 games that Al Ahly have had less possession than their opponents.

-Since 2017,  Al Ahly’s Maaloul has been directly involved in more goals than any other player  (18-8 goals, 10 assists) plus the assist he provided to Amr Joleya in final’s opening goal.

-Zamalek ‘s Zizo created more chances than any other player in the final (4) and no player has created more chances in the competition than the Egyptian.

-Zamalek’s Achraf Bencharkih has been involved in more goals than any other players in the competition this season (Involved in 14 goals in the last 16 champions league games,  scoring 10 plus 4 assists)
