Algerian side JS Kabylie have beaten Coton Sport of Garoua 2-1 at the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde in the first leg semifinal of the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup.
JS Kabylie, coached by former indomitable lions coach Denis Lavagne were the better side going into the game, as they had more of the ball going forward, and giving the cotonites hard times in the first 25 minutes.
Coton Sport themselves knew their opponents, and had to get the first goal of the game from a set piece, which competition’s top scorer Lambert Ariana got his 8th of the competition, to put the 15 time champions in front.
Poor defensive marking from the defenders of Coton Sport caused JS Kabylie to scored at the 35 minute, but goal was ruled out for offside by VAR.
Few minutes later, Coton Sport goalkeeper, Narcise Nlend blundered from a set piece, as Ahmed Keroum got the equalizer for the three times CAF Confederation Cup winners.
Going into the second half, the same weaknesses for Coton Sport were still visible, just like in the first half. Series of indecisive passes caused Coton Sport, as an own goal from Ngombe Etame gave the Algerians the lead for the first time in the game.
Coton Sport later fought back to get an equalizer which they did, but was not given after the ball was headed by a Coton Sport attacker, which crossed the line, but was not spotted by the referee. Even the Video Assistant referee’s verdict did not go to the advantage of the cotonites.
JS Kabylie held on to their lead, as they go one step into the final, having scored 2 away goals.
This is the third consecutive win for JS Kabylie over Coton Sport of Garoua this season and their fourth win over the Cotonites in their last five meetings.
A huge mountain to climb for Coton Sport, as they will need to score 2 goals without conceding if they are nursing ambition to play the final.
The return leg comes up in seven day time in Algiers, Algeria.
