Cameroon Elite One:The Gradual Decline Of Tonnerre Kalara Club

Published

on

Grigoire Nkama

Tonnerre Kalara Club Yaounde is a staple of top-flight football in Cameroon. The five-time champions of Cameroon once again face relegation to the Cameroon second tier league (Elite Two) for the third time in 20 years.

The Cameroon Elite one championship was on Match Week 28th before brutally been postponed until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Tonnerre Kalara Club (TKC) has won just eight games all season, and their last win came all the way back in early March when they conquered Stade Renard of Melong away from home 1-2, shutting down the spiral of 9 consecutive games without a single win (lost 7 of their last 10 games).

The kalara boys as they’re called are runner’s up from the bottom of the league with just four points off Dragon FC of Yaounde,  but 2 points of  AS Fortuna seated at the 14th rang. If things don’t change for Tonnerre, they will once more be relegated into the Elite Two championship unless they operate a radical change in form and mentality.

Freshly signed in coach Stephane Ndzana will be meditating during this period of grace on how to remobilize his troops and face an in-form Yong Sport Academy side when the league resumes

Tonnerre Kalara Club 11

If the football season returns and is played out in June and July, Tonnerre Kalara has an almost impossible battle to survive and cling on to what is an impressive long-standing record. The last time they were relegated was in the 2015/2016 seasons and is the second time the club has been relegated from the Elite One since 2002. A record not shared with many clubs at all.

Tonnerre Kalara also needs to start scoring more goals and conceding less, having scored the joint least but conceded less in the Elite One this season. Most of their goals have come from star man – Grigoire Nkama, finding the net 7 times. But by not having a consistent or conventional striker up top, goals have been a rarity for Tonnerre Kalara.

When, or if, the current Elite One season returns, Tonnerre Kalara Club has an almost impossible task to survive, but with 6 games left and 18 points still up for grabs, it is not over yet, and the Kalara could still maintain their impressive Elite One status.

CAF Qualifiers: A busy 12 Months for Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions (November 2020 to November 2021).

Published

on

The indomitable  of Cameroon will face a busy twelve months in both the AFCON and world cup qualifiers to begin from November 2020 to November 2021.

This comes after CAF and FIFA had to revise the two competitions in light of the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak which halted many sporting activities in the continent.

Cameroon like any other country in Africa,  will be involved in both the AFCON and world cup qualifiers to begin in November 2020 to November 2021.

Cameroon’s Indomitable lions resume their AFCON qualifiers this November 2020, with a double header against Mozambique  in their 3rd & 4th round matches while, in March next year,  Antonio Conceicao’s charges will play their 5th and 6th round matches against Cape Verde islands and Rwanda respectively.

Though Cameroon have qualified automatically as host, the lions are engaged in the qualifiers so as to gain more game time.

With the AFCON qualifiers not a serious business per say,  the world cup qualifiers will be the most difficult adventure for coach Antonio Conceicao as the Indomitable Lions will have to play Mozambique, Malawi and one of Africa’s best representatives at the world cup in recent times “the Elephants” of Ivory coast in the world cup qualifiers to begin in May 2021.

It should be noted that, the top teams of each of the groups will qualify for the play offs which have been scheduled for November 2021.

With the absence of the Indomitable Lions in Russia 2018, football lovers in Cameroon are hoping that Antonio Conceicao will be the man to take Cameroon to the promise land.
