Karl Toko Ekambi, Cameroon’s record goal getter in the french Ligue 1 with 17 goals

Cameroon internationals Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa and Karl Toko Ekambi have been shortlisted amongst 18 other African players plying their trade in France as nominees for the 2018 Marc Vivian Foe Award.

The award organized in France is an annual award dedicated to former Cameroon international Marc Vivien Foe who died in active service for Cameroon in 2003 as an Olympique Lyonnais player at the age of 28 in his club’s stadium during the FIFA confederation cup of that year.

Strange enough no Cameroonian has won this award since it’s inception in 2009.As usual, this year’s award has 13 nominees in the first phase,3 Ivorian(Jean Michel Seri of OGC Nice, last year’s winner, Nicolas Pepe of Lille and Max Alain Gradel of Toulouse),2 Senegalese(Keita Balde of Monaco and Moussa Konate of Amiens),2 Cameroonians( Toko Ekambi of Angers and Zambo Anguissa),1 Malian( Hamari Traore of Stade Rennes),1 Burkinabe (Bertrand Traore of Olympique Lyonnais) 1 Cape Verdi(Julio Tabares of Dijon),1 Tunisian (Wahbi Khazri of Stade Rennes), 1 Congolese (Gael Kakuta of Amiens),1 Togolese (Mathieu Dossevi of Metz).

Toko who is in his second season at Angers has featured in 30 of the club’s 32 league un games this season scoring 17 goals and providing 4 assists.

Zambo is in his second season as a first team player at Marseille and the former AS Fortuna and Cotonsport midfielder has established a formidable midfield partnership with Brazilian midfield Maestro Luiz Gustavo making Marseille a joy to watch.

With 2 Cameroonians in a competition no Cameroonian has ever won, but dedicated to their late compatriot,it is expected either Zambo or Toko do what Nicolas Nkoulou,Vincent Aboubakar,Henri Bendimo and Benjamin Moukandjo failed to do.

Last year’s winner Jean Michel Seri have not replicated his form last season but he is in with a chance of retaining his crown.
