Pitted in the finals of the CAF Confederation Cup against an Egyptian side, for a second season successively, RS Berkane has changed her status in the competition – from runners-up, to champions.
The script couldn’t get a better read. RS Berkane’s first triumph in CAF’s second-tier, continental club competition came in Morocco; the club’s blueprint.
The game got its decider as early as the 15th minute when Burkinabe center-half Issoufou Dayo turned poacher and scored the game’s lone goal.
A late red card for Berkane’s El Helali, with one minute of regular playing time left, didn’t change the complection of the day.
Pyramids FC was tipped to succeed fellow country – giants Zamalek as champions but were caught napping at the very start. Pyramids FC uncharacteristically had to chase the game for chunks of it, however, failed to break a fine Berkane side.
Nicknamed the Orange Boys, not all 90 minutes were juicy, but perhaps the experience of being at the same position last season and failing, acted as the biggest motivator for Berkane.
Promoted to Morocco’s top-flight only some 8 years back, this is the Berkane’s first major continental success.
Foot for thought for the African ‘money bags’ Pyramids FC is; the start of the Egyptian premier League in November. Their ambitious owners will definitely want to leapfrog Zamalek and Ahly to it.

Ante Cacic: Pyramids FC Kicks Croat Coach Out, After Defeat to Berkane In CAF CC.
Sports Writer Mysoccer24.com-Cameroon
Ambitious Egyptian side Pyramids FC extraordinarily kicked out 67-year-old Croat gaffer Ante Cacic after the team lost to RS Berkane in the 2020 CAF Confederation Cup final.
Since changing the franchise’s name and ownership in 2018, new owner Al Sheikh, chairman of the Saudi Sports Authority Turki, has pushed for nothing short of glory.
Expected to win CAF’s inferior club competition (Confederation Cup) on Monday 25, Cacic fell short, hereby provoking his immediate exit.
Despite the rally of Pyramids new owners, so called ‘club of the century’ ; Al Ahly, and self proclaimed ‘real club of the century; Zamalek, are head and shoulders above a new-look Pyramids.
The Croat however leaves Pyramids FC having added more to the fine-tuning of a team, many believe will become a well oiled machine in the nearest future.
Alexander Belinga: “we didn’t play our football, Sunday will be another match”
Sports Writer Mysoccer24.com
The deputy coach of Futuro Kings of Mongomo, Alexander Belinga, believes his team will be much fitter on Sunday, when they play Cotonsport of Garoua, in a return leg friendly game.
An early goal from Marou Souaibou, a late first half penalty from Lionel Abate and a fine finish from Gueme Areina, gave cotonsport a resounding 3#0 win over the Equato Guinean side in the first leg game played at the Annex one stadium in Yaoundé on Tuesday afternoon.
Former Indomitable lions coach, Alexander Belinga was in the dugout for Futuro Kings, taking the place of their Belgian tactician Jean François Loscuito, who seemingly didn’t make the trip to Cameroon.
The gaffer says several factors contributed to their shambolic display against cotonsport, but is confident that his boys will give cotonsport a good run for their money, on Sunday.
“In the first half it was very difficult for us because of the Sun and I think we didn’t play our football but in the second segment we were much improved, but the referee gave us two red cards, which made matters worst for us. It was very difficult for us to play against cotonsport when we are two man down“.
Cotonsport and Futuro Kings will again square up at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium on Sunday October 25. Alexander Belinga says he is expecting some reinforcements in his squad and promise a better game come Sunday.
“On Sunday it will be another match, we have some players that will be joining us in camp, so we will try to fix our team to be fit on Sunday. We have about three days to prepare sunday’s game and I think we will be ready”, Belinga added.
The Equatoguinean Primera División was abandoned on June 8, 2020 by The Equatoguinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT), after just 11 match days, due to the Covid19 pandemic. FUTURO Kings were ranked second with 24 points, behind Akonangui FC (29 points).
The young team of presidentJuan Mañe Ondo, will be taking part in the CAF Confederations cup, and have multiplied several friendly games, in order to be ready for their maiden continental challenge.
“FUTURO Kings is a young team that is growing. We are still working, we have players who are coming from all over Africa and even in Europe. It is not easy to get the right combination but bit by bit we will get there. That’s why we came here, because in Equatorial Guinea teams have not yet started training, so we came here to face tough opponents and now we already have an idea of what awaits us in the CAF Confederations cup”, Alexander Belinga opines.
The team has already played international friendlies against Cameroon league one champions PWD of Bamenda, and also Congolese giants, TP Mazembe.
