Coach Mckinstry Jonathan has reacted after releasing a 25 man squad to play a pre_CHAN 2020 tournament in Cameroon.
The former Rwanda trainer has brought in the philosophy of ‘why not us,’ a huge statement of intend that shows they’re not coming just to make up numbers.
Faced with questions as regards how the camp has been, Mckinstry said: “we’ve been in camp for over a week now. Everyone is focused and determined, they want their tickets to go to Cameroon.’ He paused.
A mini tournament penciled for January 1, will see Cameroon, Zambia, Niger and Uganda log horns before the competition finals.
“We think it is a good platform for the players,” Mckinstry opined.
“We need to have an attitude of why not us (winning attitude), looking at other nations that have won the tournament before like: Libya, Congo and many others.
‘The difference between teams are not great at this tournament. If we perform at our best, we have the potential to go deep into the tournament,” the gaffer ended.
Uganda has had a massive 5 appearance in the CHAN tourney but are yet to get passed the group stage in any occasion. Uganda pits Rwanda, Morocco and Togo in group C of the tournament finals.
