
Barely a year after Cameroon hosted the sixth African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have revealed the start date for the qualifiers of the seventh edition to take place in Algeria in January next year.
This is a tournament organized by CAF mainly for players plying their trade in their home countries.
Initially, the tournament was to take place in July 2022, but was postponed to January 2023 in Algeria.
The qualifiers will have have three phases. They will begin at the end of June and will end at the beginning of September this year.
The qualifying phase will be played in zones as it has always been in the past years. We have the North, West A and B, Central East and South.
At the end of the qualifiers, 16 teams will qualify for the final tournament to take place in Algeria from January 8 to 31, 2023.
Qualifying Schedule For CHAN.
1st round: June 24-26 (1st leg), July 1-3 (2nd leg)
2nd round: July 22-24 (1st leg), July 26-31 (2nd leg)
3rd round: August 26-28 (1st leg), September 2-4 (2nd leg)
It should be noted that Morocco are the defending champions, and will be looking to win a third consecutive crown in the competition.
