Manchester City have overtaken Real Madrid as the most expensive squad in world football.
Pep Guardiola’s Premier League kings City cost a staggering £705million, while back-to-back to-back Champions League winners Madrid’s squad weighs in at £696m.
The figures are revealed in an official UEFA report – the European Footballing Landscape – which is a study looking at finance, ticket prices, profits and turnover.
Manchester United ’s squad is the third most expensive, with Chelsea a distant fourth as their squad cost over 40 per cent less.
Liverpool are on course “to smash” Leicester ’s record net profit of £86m thanks to player sales and also the prize money from reaching last season’s Champions League final.
