PWD Social football Club of Bamenda will officially receive their trophy as 2019_2020 league one champions on Tuesday November 10, 2020, in Bamenda, after their league’s opener against Stade Renard of Melong.
The president of PWD, Pascal Abunde confirmed in Bamenda on Sunday, during the official presentation of the club’s newly acquired bus.
“I want to use this opportunity to make this announcement to the fans that during our first match against Stade Renard on Tuesday, we are going to receive our trophy, which is what the fans have been clamouring for. I think it is going to be a big day for us. It’s true that it is not coming the way we would have wanted it to be, but we think that it is what we earned. So I want to call on the fans to be present at the Mile six Arena on Tuesday to push their team so that we start the season possibly the way we ended last term”, said Pascal Abunde.
The president also revealed that his team is ready for the kick-off of the Championship, with over 75 percent of last season’s squad maintained and recruitment of new players done.
The Club is supposed to face Libyian giants Al Ahly Tripoli next week in a friendly game in Tripoli, but Pascal Abunde says the club is still trying to negotiate a way forward with the FA.
“We engaged discussions with Al Ahly Tripoli before the programmation of the league, so now we are trying to look at how workable it is going to be. We are in talks with the federation (FECAFOOT), to see If they can create a window for us because those two games are going to be very important for us in preparing the team for the CAF champions league”.
PWD won the 2019_2020 Elite one championship after 28 games, with six playing days to go, following the outbreak of the Covid19 pandemic. PWD had 47 points then, one point ahead of second place cotonsport of Garoua.
Coach David Pagou and his boys took everyone by surprise, to win the sides first ever silverware in the club’s 58_year history.
