World football most sensational footballer, Lionel Messi has finally won a silverwear with his fatherland, Argentina, after a 1-0 win over archenemy Brazil in the final at the old aged Maracana Stadium.
Angel Di Maria benefited from Rodrigo De Paul’s long pass to put Argentina in front at the 22 and minute. This was Di Maria third goal of the tournament.
Brazil however, mounted pressure on the old enemy to get the equalizer, but that did not paid off, as Argentina won their first Copa America title since 1993, which put them join most Copa America titles won alongside Uruguay with 15 titles each.
But it looks a more bigger day for football architect of his generation, Lionel Messi won his first major trophy with his fatherland. Having won over 35 trophies for Barcelona, the 34 year old crowned it with a trophy for his country.
Lionel Messi had previously won the Olympic Gold Medal in football and the FIFA under 20 world cup, but was not greeted by most of his critics, who wanted him to win a more befitting trophy like the Copa America.
The win for Argentina extends their sequence of undefeated matches to 20 under Lionel Scaloni and this is Brazil’s first defeat since their 2018 World cup quarter final exit to Belgium.
