After Augustine Senghor had received the backing of former sports ministers in Senegal, Patrice Motsepe have also received endorsement from the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA).
This was in a meeting of the COSAFA executive committee held on January 27, 2021. At the meeting, Dr Motsepe was endorsed as the only candidate by the 14 members of the regional body to run for the CAF Presidential elections.
A decision that was taken in 2017 by the Zone to always support one of its own, just like the case of Dr Motsepe.
It should be noted that, in 2017 COSAFA was the first to endorse eventual winner Ahmad from Madagascar, reasons why the zone has thrown its support to Dr Motsepe.
“We are confident that once we take a unanimous decision to back one of our own, other members who want real change in CAF will join the winning party. In Dr Motsepe we have a candidate who will usher in a new era for African Football”, Said COSAFA president, Phillip Chiyangwa.
The Mamelodi Sundowns president will be facing stiff competition from former Ivorian football administrator, Jacques Anouma, Senegal FA boss Augustine Senghor and Mauritania football federation president, Ahmed Yahya.
The CAF Presidential elections is set to take place on March 12, 2021 in Rabat, Morocco.
