From Eavesdrops and some documents tiptoeing on several social media platforms, Elite One leaders PWD of Bamenda and Eding Sport FC have been proposed as Cameroon’s representatives on continental assignment, to the Prime Minister by the Cameroon F.A.
On Tuesday, March 17, the hands of FECAFOOT President Seidou Mbombo Njoya were tight as he had to halt all FECAFOOT, run tourneys due to government’s measures to curb the Covid-19 pandemic which has acted as an adverse effect not just to Cameroon, but, Africa and the world.
Stakeholders of the ‘beautiful game’ in the country gathered on CAF’s dateline (May 5,) given to member associations to communicate on whether their leagues’ will continue.
From inside sources, this reporter gathered that FECAFOOT had to leave the decision late due to desperately high stakes of all clubs involved in the top-flight championships.
“Football is not the priority in the current situation”
After the meeting, president Seidou Mbombo Njoya made these statements in his press outing:”Football is not the priority in the current situation. Football is secondary. We will make the decisions when it is necessary to make them. We have all the scenarios and all the options ready. We have informed CAF and FIFA. What is a priority for us today is what we are doing right now: helping footballers or preparing for the future. Yes! These are the things that occupy us right now. We will make other decisions when the government has made in favourable decisions in relation to the fight against the CoronaVirus pandemic. Let’s stop getting carried away. ”
It is certain that a decision has been arrived at, and sent to appropriate quarters but the FECAFOOT boss has decided to stay incommunicado concerning an out-and-out answer on the issue.
In the midst of the heat, PWD and Eding Sport FC seemed to be the best possible options to represent the nation, while the Cameroon leagues most certainly looks to be pronounced done and dusted with, anytime soon.
After 28 games, PWD are topping the chart with 47 points, a game lesser than Cotonsport who lost their advanced day 29 clash against Eding Sport FC.
PWD are the most likely to play the CAF champions League. For the Confederation Cup, last two seasons representative Eding Sport FC comes into the picture.
With the intrigues surrounding the second spot; Cotonsport having played more games than closest rivals Colombe, who believe they deserve a chance, stakeholders are looking elsewhere, for there to be some peace and quiet between those two.
Looking equally at the somewhat unsatisfactory performance and financial crisis of last season’s CAF confederation cup representatives, Stade Renard, the best option that pops up is Eding.
Despite not having clocked a decade of existence, Eding Sport have reached the nation’s pinnacle of football with a burgeoning medal table, as they have won the Cameroon cup and Elite One titles already.
Headed by their enthusiastic president Saint Fabien Mvogo, there were hardly any iota of complaints as per finance, during the two spells the club represented the nation on the continent.
Eding Sport are currently 10th on the table with 38 points despite not starting the campaign in fine fertile as they’d have loved.

CAF Qualifiers: A busy 12 Months for Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions (November 2020 to November 2021).
The indomitable of Cameroon will face a busy twelve months in both the AFCON and world cup qualifiers to begin from November 2020 to November 2021.
This comes after CAF and FIFA had to revise the two competitions in light of the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak which halted many sporting activities in the continent.
Cameroon like any other country in Africa, will be involved in both the AFCON and world cup qualifiers to begin in November 2020 to November 2021.
Cameroon’s Indomitable lions resume their AFCON qualifiers this November 2020, with a double header against Mozambique in their 3rd & 4th round matches while, in March next year, Antonio Conceicao’s charges will play their 5th and 6th round matches against Cape Verde islands and Rwanda respectively.
Though Cameroon have qualified automatically as host, the lions are engaged in the qualifiers so as to gain more game time.
With the AFCON qualifiers not a serious business per say, the world cup qualifiers will be the most difficult adventure for coach Antonio Conceicao as the Indomitable Lions will have to play Mozambique, Malawi and one of Africa’s best representatives at the world cup in recent times “the Elephants” of Ivory coast in the world cup qualifiers to begin in May 2021.
It should be noted that, the top teams of each of the groups will qualify for the play offs which have been scheduled for November 2021.
With the absence of the Indomitable Lions in Russia 2018, football lovers in Cameroon are hoping that Antonio Conceicao will be the man to take Cameroon to the promise land.
