CAF has released a short list of 30 players contending for the trophy of African player of the year. Most of the African stars are present; Ryhad Mahrez, Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Jordan Ayew and many others.
Among the nominees are just 2 Cameroonians; Indomitable lion’s captain Eric maxime Choupo-Moting and Ajax Amsterdam’s goalkeeper André Onana.

Andre Onana is Cameroon’s sole hope to be shortlisted in the final phase of the selection. The 23 year old has played all 14 games this season for Ajax and conceding 10 goals.
Cameroon has fallen short of talents at the top African and world scene with just 2 players making the list of best 30 on the continent.
With just 8 games played as a regular, 3 goals and 1 assist Choupo-Moting of PSG will surely not make it to the final shortlist as the former Stoke city and Shalke 04 forward hasn’t had enough playing time at Paris, watching his team from the bench in most occasions.
Gone are the days when Cameroonian stars triumphed on the continent. Abega Theophile, Patrick Mboma and Samuel Eto’o are some indomitable lions who have claimed this trophy in the past decades.
