The Egyptian Public Funds Presecution has taken over investigation over the lost AFCON trophy in Egypt.
This comes after the Egyptian Public Funds Presecution confirmed that, the attorney General has referred the missing trophy case to the desk of the public funds Presecution.
With the former Egyptian Football Association vice-president, Ahmad Shobier confirming the disappearance of the AFCON trophy from the EFA headquarters on Friday, the Egyptian FA announced investigations of the missing trophies.
However, the case took another twist on Wednesday, following conflicting statements among the EFA officials, regarding the missing trophies, cause the Egyptian Public Funds Presecution to confirm that, the case is now in the hands of the Public Funds Presecution.
“The Attorney General has ordered to refer the EFA’s lost AFCON trophy case to the Public Funds Presecution”, the Public Funds Presecution said in a statement.
“It was found out that the afformentioned cup has been lost and there have been conflicting statements among the EFA officials regarding the reasons for losing it. Therefore, the incident will be investigated”.
It should be noted that, this was the trophy Egypt retained after winning the AFCON three times in a roll( 2006, 2008 and 2010).
The continental of African Football (CAF) has also hinted the EFA on their availability to assist in the investigation process.
