Fai and Kerrido Return, Assomo compensated, As Conceicao pre – selects 37 Lions To face Cape Verde and Rwanda

Coach Antonio Conceicao has preselected 37 players for AFCON qualifying games against Cape Verde and Rwanda on the 25 and 30 of March respectively.

With Cameroon assured of a spot at home as hosts of AFCON 2021, coach Conceicao is perhaps just looking for a winning formula to carry his team to the finals of their own tournament.

From the goalkeeping zone, there is a vacancy as Onana had been banned for a year. Former Cotonsport and Fovu goalkeeper Efala Jean is the name a host of football lovers are surprised with in the pecking order of incoming net-minders. The current Akwa United shot stopper however is a well known name in the land, but  skill wise, other young goalies would have prolly done better. Haschou Kerrido after being voted goalie of the group stages in the CHAN competition, keeping 2 clean sheets along the line, seems to have done enough to crawl his way back into the team. Kerrido was in Conceicao’s list the last time Cameroon played against Cape Verde.

  • For the defenders, Fai Collins is making his way back after missing the double header against Mozambique in October last year. Fauve Azure’s teenage sensation Meyapya has been compensated for his fine showing at the ongoing Under-20 AFCON in Mauritania, despite the side’s shock exit against Ghana on penalties. Serge Leuko as well is another name now present, who was absent against Mozambique late last year. It is a pretty much balanced midfield area with regular names. Eric Maxim Choupo Moting comes back after missing the last two encounters while vice captain, Vincent Aboubakar, is omnipresent as usual. Ako Assomo has been compensated for his good display at the African Nations Championship in January, same with new club boys – John Mary now of Avispa in Japan, and Bassogog of Shanghai Shenshua.
