Familiar trio make shortlist for African player of the year

Forwards Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have again made the shortlist for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) player of the year award, the second year running the trio have battled it out for the prestigious prize.

Egypt striker Salah claimed the honour last year and will be favourite again, hoping to become the fourth player to win back-to-back titles after Senegal forward El Hadji Diouf, Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure.

Liverpool team mate Mane from Senegal has been getting closer to the prize after finishing third in the voting in 2016 and second last year.

Gabon forward Aubameyang made the final three for the fifth time in succession, equalling the record set by Toure and former Ghana international midfielder Michael Essien.

His only victory came in 2015 when he beat Toure and Ghanaian Andre Ayew to the prize.

The award is voted for by the national team coaches and captains of CAF’s 56 member associations and the winner for 2018 will be announced in Dakar, Senegal on Jan. 8.

Experienced Chadian forward en route to YOSA

28_year_old experienced Chadian left back, Djime Nam Leger, has left Yaoundé this Sunday morning and is on his way to Bamenda, where he will finalize his contract with league one side, Yong Sports Academy.

The TMS and the FIFA Connect systems in Cameroon were closed on Friday at midnight, signaling the end of the summer transfer window, with the next window scheduled to open only as from January 02, 2021.

MySoccer24.com understands that the club and player had already sorted out the deal, pending the arrival of the player. Our sources have revealed that the player has agreed a two years deal with the club.

YOSA had an impressive run in the 2019_2020 football season under coach Nkabyo Martin, and are now determined to battle for the League’s title in the upcoming campaign.

The team has already secured the services of experienced Midfielder, Joel Etogue and a host of youngsters. The coming of Djime Nam Leger will add more experience to their attack line, that has lost key elements from last season’s expedition, like the club’s top scorer last term, Tongua Armel and also Tegemo Emmanuel.

Djime Nam Leger had posted a video some weeks back, announcing is potentially move to YOSA, but now the deal is more than certain to happen.

Born in Ndjamena, Chad on October 2, 1992, Djime has played for a series of top club’s in Africa, such as Elect-Sport FC, Foullah Edifice, Missile FC (Gabon), Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi (Morocco), El Nasr (Egypt), As Coton(Chad), and Tourbillon FC N’Djamena.

He operates mainly as a left wing forward, but can also play as a Centre-Forward and
Second Striker. Djime has played both the CAF champions league and Confederation cup. He is also a full Chadian international.

YOSA has always found favor in Chadian players, who have never disappointed the club’s hierarchy. For the past two seasons, they have had Goalkeeper serge Diguel and Romeo Otodjebaye from Chad. Before them, was Goalkeeper Adoum Defallah, was is heavily linked with a possible return to the club.

Thierry Tchuente returns to Cotonsport

28_year_old central Midfielder, Thierry Tchuente, has made a surprise comeback to Cotonsport of Garoua, after a short spell at CS Chebba in Tunisia.

The former Astres of Douala man joined CS Chebba in January 2020, after playing 12 league games in the 2019_2020 season with Cotonsport of Garoua, during which he scored seven goals.

The imposing Midfielder went on to make 12 appearances for Chebba, during he netted two goals.

Sources within the 15 times Cameroon league winners cotonsport, now indicates that Tchuente is back at the club, and took part in the Club’s training session on Thursday morning at the FECAFOOT technical center in Odza, ahead of signing his contract with the cotonnites.

Cotonsport defeated Futuro Kings of Mongomo 3#0 in an international friendly on Tuesday in Yaoundé, and will leave Yaoundé on Thursday afternoon for Bafoussam, where they will again face FUTURO Kings on Sunday and later on PWD of Bamenda next Wednesday.

Thierry Tchuente is likely to feature in both games. His comeback is going to be a great addition for cotonsport, who have already lost a key element in their Midfield, Pascal Mbarga Abega, who left for AS Vita club.

Tchuente has previously represented Douala Athletic club 2000, and Omani side, Mirbat Sports Club.

Daouda Kamilou can’t wait to play PWD

Experienced cotonsport Forward, Daouda Kamilou has stated that facing Cameroon league one champions, PWD of Bamenda in a preseason friendly will be the “best thing” for him and his cotonsport teammates.

Kamilou’s cotonsport thrashed Equato Guinean side FUTURO Kings of Mongomo 3#nil in a friendly game played at the Yaoundé Annex one stadium on Tuesday afternoon, with the veteran Forward featuring in just the last quarter of the game.

Speaking to the press shortly after the game, the cotonsport’s all time top scorer said he was impressed with his sides performance, though expecting more in future.

“We have been training now for almost two and a half months now, and physically we are ready but now we are going to develop our tactics”, said Kamilou.

Cotonsport will be representing Cameroon in the CAF Confederations cup, with the objectives of breaking into the group stage, a feet which the cotonnites have failed to attend for about five years now.

“In the CAF competition our main objective is to enter the group stage. We are also targeting the league and the Cameroon cup. Almost three years now we have not win anything, this year we are going to do everything to win a trophy”, Kamilou added.

Cotonsport will on Sunday October 25, play another friendly game against FUTURO Kings at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium, with a game against PWD in perspective. Daouda Kamilou is releasing the opportunity to meet the Abakwa Boys in a preseason encounter.

PWD has been preparing well, so playing them is going to be the best match of the preseason for us“.

Daouda Kamilou has spend more than a decade with the 15 times Cameroon league winners, and still believe he can contribute his quota in the cotonsport’s revamp, and why not win another silverware before hanging his boots if need be.
