Cameroon will seek to revenge on Mali in the semifinals

Cameroon Lionesses came out on fire and didn’t step off the gas in their 67-61 win against Egypt on Thursday. The victory secures a place for the Basketball lionesses who advance to the tournament Semi-Finals and to face Mali on Friday evening.

Cameroon started the game well in the first quarter scoring 10-4 points after four minutes had gone but slump at the 8th minutes when Egypt drew level at 14-14. Missing some quality free throws and missing three-pointers cause team Cameroon to chase shadows in the first quarter as they lost 20-25 a difference of five points going into the second quarter

Turning Point

In the Second Quarter, the lionesses outscored Egypt 19-7 and never looked back. Making 8 of 12 shots with an efficient inside-out offense, the lionesses came out organized and shared the ball well en route to the big second-quarter lead 39-32

Lionesses Panicked In the Third Quarter

The third quarter just like the first quarter saw Cameroon go with fear with a shaky defense with several defensive errors and give away balls cheaply to their opponent Egypt who capitalized and won the third quarter 11-14 but was not enough to put them up at the end of the third quarter with the lionesses going in the four quarter with a slid advantage of 4 points difference 50-46

Fourth Quarter Decider

Both teams got into the fourth quarter composed and calm but team Cameroon was at the top of their game as they made sure their two-pointers were efficiently executed giving them a two points lead in the four quarter 17-15 and rape up the game with a total score of 67-61

Game Hero

Marguerite Effa of Cameroon compiled 17 points, 8 rebounds, and one assist. She was efficient, too, shooting 8/17 on two-pointers 1/5 on three-pointers.


Cameroon got 50% (5/10) on free throws while Egypt 55%(12/22)

Cameroon gains 53% on 2 pointers 28/53 and Egypt 53% (17/32). Cameroon performed poorly on three-pointers 22% (2/9)and Egypt has 36%(5/14)

Cameroon finished the game with 48%(30/62) on field goals and Egypt 48%(22/47)
Team Cameroon was outstanding with 38 rebounds won and 22 for Egypt.

Cameroon ended the game with 16 points maximum in a row and Egypt 10 points

NB: Cameroon will face Mali in the Semi-finals on Thursday evening. The last time these two teams met was in 2017 when Mali hosted the 26th edition and Cameroon was surprised by Mali 69-35 at the group phase.
