Florentino Perez declared Real Madrid have lost “a fine Madridista” following the passing of former president Lorenzo Sanz.
Florentino Perez believes Lorenzo Sanz deserves “the greatest recognition” from Real Madrid, promising a tribute will be made to the former president at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sanz, who was club president at Madrid between 1995 and 2000, died at the age of 76 after contracting the coronavirus.
In a statement on the club’s website, current president Perez highlighted the success Madrid enjoyed under Sanz, who presided over two Champions League triumphs, including the 1998 title that ended a 32-year wait for glory in Europe’s top club competition.
“Today, we remember Lorenzo Sanz, who has fallen victim to this tragedy,” Perez said.
“He was the president who gave us Madridistas the long-awaited European Cup after a 32-year absence. We Madridistas will forever remember him as the president who brought hope and joy flooding back on the 20th of May 1998 in Amsterdam.
“La Septima was ours. It was then followed by La Octava two years on, in the year 2000 in Paris, as Real Madrid returned to its rightful position in football’s history books.
“Beyond those two European Cups, under his tutelage, the club also clinched one Intercontinental Cup, one LaLiga title, a Spanish Super Cup, a basketball league title and Cup Winners’ Cup.”

Perez said Sanz still attended Madrid matches regularly and was present to witness the club’s four Champions League triumphs between 2015 and 2018.
He had been admitted to hospital with coronavirus-like symptoms and his son, Lorenzo, announced his death on social media on Saturday.
Perez added: “We’ve lost a fine Madridista who dedicated a large part of his life to what was both his and his family’s greatest pleasure: Real Madrid.
“Here at the club, we’ll do all we can to honour his memory and legacy, to pay him the tribute that all of Madridismo craves. Lorenzo deserves the greatest recognition.
“A tribute to him in our Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, where he continued to attend every game in order to stay close to his team. For now, as we all know, this is not possible, but we will of course ensure it takes place in order to enshrine his memory in the minds of new generations of Madridismo.”
OFFICIAL: Atlético Madrid sign Luis Suárez
Barcelona have made official that Atlético and the Catalan side have reached an agreement for the transfer of Luis Suárez.
Suárez is staying in Spain. Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday evening that the club have reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of Luis Suárez.
After a summer full of speculation, the Uruguayan finally has his new team. Barcelona made it official on Wednesday evening. He has moved for 6 million in variables.
The striker has been linked with Ajax and Juventus in the window, but it is Atlético who have managed to sign him.
During his time at the club, Suárez played 283 matches for them and scored 197 goals.
Barcelona thanked the player in a statement on their website: “FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suárez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Atlético then shortly released their own statement saying: “Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement over the transfer of Luis Suárez, subject to passing his medical and agreeing and formalising the Uruguayan’s contract with our club”.
Who will take Messi’s role at Barca?
Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembélé, and even Kylian Mbappé. There are several names linked with taking over from Leo Messi, but replacing the best player in the history of Barcelona is no easy task.
From Messi leaving to Messi staying there’s a lot of difference, a lot of changes to be made, a lot of history to go through. The possible exit of the Argentine star is the Barcelona fans’ worst nightmare.
According to what was published just a few days ago by ‘RAC1’, the Argentine forward has already reportedly told Ronald Koeman that he sees himself more out than in at Barcelona, adding that he doesn’t see his future at the Camp Nou clear at all.
A supposed outcome on the already famous meeting confirmed by Ramón Planes which has set of all the alarms, that has set off all the alarms, glimpsing in the horizon the possibility of seeing a Barcelona without its greatest referent, Leo Messi, the best player of all its history.
PSG, City, and Inter are the destinations that have been linked for the Barca forward to leave behind his unforgettable spell and start a new adventure far away from what has always been his home, from his team.
And the biggest concern now is finding the ideal replacement at Barca who for many is the best player in the world. Because, if Messi ends up leaving, who will replace a player like him?
¿Quién hará de Messi sin Leo?
‘Marca’ state Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembélé as the ones to take over from the Argentine star, but it is who will take Messi’s role at Barca that are greater words.
Amongst all the options the name Kylian Mbappé also appears, a player who is also followed with desire by Real Madrid and who could leave behind his successful spell at PSG, who he will play the final of the Champions League with in just 24 hours, to become the new Barcelona star.
Ferland Mendy: From wheelchair to La Liga champion- Inspiring story
French defender Ferland Mendy has entered the books as one of Real Madrid’s key players who drove through all odds to becoming the winners of Spain’s most celebrated league honour, La Liga in 2020. An inspiring journey that has more to it.

But fortunately for the 14-year-old, his medical complications reduced and gave way the chance not only to walk but to join a 4th division club, Mantois 78 in France where he hoped to get himself fit for football again. There, Ferland was transformed from striker to left back but kept the fire burning.

This combined with his strength and speed saw him moving to Spanish giants, Real Madrid on July 1, 2019 where he won the 2019/2020 La Liga title with the Spain capital city under manager Zinedine Zidane. A record 34th for Real Madrid.
He played 25 La Liga matches for the club this season and netted once. Ferland Mendy’s successful pairing with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Varane and Marcelo at the club is considered to have played a great role in the team’s success this season as they recorded over 16 clean sheets.
Mendy and Real are still in contention of the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League title where they will face Manchester City at the quarter finals with the lad looking forward to win his first UCL title and continue representing France. A country he has played four senior matches for and is battling for the left back position with his name sake, Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy.
