Ghana face Equatorial Guinea in an international friendly in October

Published

on

MySoccer24.com can report that the Black Stars will take on Equatorial Guinea in an international friendly match in October in Turkey.

Sources within the Equatorial Guinea camp and their new head coach Jorge Paulo Costa Almeida have confirmed the friendly encounter on 12 October 2020.

It was initially reported that the Black Stars will face African champions Algeria but that seems not to have materialized.

Ghana will tackle West African neighbours Mali on Friday 9 October 2020 also in Turkey before they play Equatorial Guinea three days later.

The Black Stars last faced the Nzalang Nacional five years ago in the semi-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana thumped the hosts 3-0 in Malabo.

The two games will serve as preparations for CK Akonnor ahead of November’s doubleheader against Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

Akonnor was appointed head coach of the Black Stars in January 2020 but has since not made his debut at the dugout.

Andy Cole insists Ole has to be ‘good salesman’ to convince players to join

Published

on

Andy Cole has boldly stated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to be a ‘very good salesman’ in the transfer market to convince star players to join Manchester United over rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

Premier League champions Liverpool signed Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota last week, while City have bought Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake this summer. United’s only significant summer purchase has been Donny van de Beek for £40m.

So far, United have failed in their pursuit of their top target, Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, and former United striker Cole insists Solskjaer now has a job on his hands to persuade players to join the new generation at Old Trafford.

‘When Manchester United were dominating all the best players wanted to come to Man United and they wanted to come for a reason, because they had the opportunity of winning and that’s what it’s about,’ the 1999 treble winner told Goal.

‘When you don’t have the opportunity to win you’re not going to say you will go to Man United if Liverpool or Man City are interested. Instead, you’re going to go to one of those clubs where you can win things.

‘To convince players at the peak of their playing career to join a club and a project that will take two or three years, you’ve got to be a very good salesman.’

United failed to meet Dortmund’s £108m asking price for Sancho and a move now appears unlikely to materialise before the October 5 transfer deadline.

Cole questioned if ex-City youth-team player Sancho is actually keen to return to Manchester, given he is yet to formally force through a move away from the Bundesliga.

‘Sancho hasn’t made any fuss about trying to force a move to United. If he was doing that I would turn around and think this kid really fancies going,’ Cole said.

‘From the outside looking in it looks like he thinks “yeah, I will get on with things at Dortmund, I’m not really fussed about it.” So does he really want to come? Previously when people have wanted to come, the player has said “I want to go.”‘

Another player from the treble-winning team under Sir Alex Ferguson, Gary Neville, has also been critical of United’s failure to land their top targets this summer.

‘You see Liverpool getting a player for £40m, £25m, you see other clubs do it,’ Neville told Sky Sports.

‘[Timo] Werner is quite cheap compared to some of the prices of players you see in the market and United always seem to have to pay top dollar and the people at the club will not like that, almost as though they are easy pickings. And there is a suggestion of that.

‘The problem is, they have to find a way to get deals done and they can’t get deals done efficiently.

‘And it is negligence not to get the squad in place, they have had six months since March when lockdown was on being able to deliberate, do zoom calls, connect with agents, move things into place.

‘There is no excuse really for not getting your transfers done before the start of the season.’

Premier League outcasts: Mesut Ozil and Xherdan Shaqiri among ‘Big Six’ stars in exile

Published

on

After two weeks of Premier League action, it is beginning to seem clear who is in favour at their club, and who is the outcast.

A number of surprising names have been left out of starting squads and even the bench, suggesting their time at their club may be coming to an end.

It might just be a temporary blip for some, but for others, they have been missing for months.

There is just a couple of weeks left of the transfer window for teams to do business, and it’s now or never for some of these players who face possible lengthy spells watching from the sidelines.

Here’s a look of the Premier League’s Big Six outcasts…

*Arsenal – Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi*

Who knows what’s going on with Ozil? Mikel Arteta has admitted that the German playmaker isn’t close to a comeback, despite being the club’s highest-paid player.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are still trying to offload rebel Guendouzi, but are facing the prospect of keeping the Frenchman with club’s not keen on the Frenchman, despite his youth.

*Chelsea – Antonio Rudiger*

German defender Rudiger is being linked with clubs from Barcelona to West Ham after being frozen out by Frank Lampard.

The arrival of Thiago Silva has pushed Rudiger even further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and his time in the capital appears to be almost up.

*Liverpool – Xherdan Shaqiri*

Shaqiri is in something of a limbo with Liverpool after making a delayed start to pre-season training.

Reports have suggested that the Reds are opening to selling the Swiss winger and he is yet to make a matchday squad this season, but they appear to be in no rush to push him out of the door either.

*Man City – Nicolas Otamendi*

Argentine defender Otamendi’s only use for City now appears to be as part of a makeweight to keep potential signings as cheap as possible.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Sky Blues are considering including him in a deal for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

*Man Utd – Jesse Lingard*

Lingard seems to have been on the fringes at United forever, but with his contract expiring next summer, it’s now or never for the attacking-midfielder.

Tottenham have been rumoured with interest in the 27-year-old, but United are also considering triggering the one-year extension option on his current deal.

Lingard was left out of the squad to face Crystal Palace last weekend but returned in the League Cup.

However, with Premier League chances looking few and far between, perhaps Lingard’s time at Old Trafford will soon be up.

*Tottenham – Dele Alli*

This is a saga no-one would have predicted a few weeks ago – but has Jose Mourinho had enough of Alli at Spurs?

After hooking the midfielder at half-time in their opening day defeat to Everton, Alli is yet to feature again, sparking rumours of a move to PSG.

In the last 24 hours Mourinho has played down talk of a departure, and the 24-year-old is expected to be given the chance to fight for his place again.

He’s expected to play in the Europa League on Thursday night.

But if he doesn’t, then it certainly doesn’t bode well for his future under Mourinho.
