According to the Cameroon National team and PWD Goalkeeper, Haschou Kerrido, he was impressed by the playing style of Mali’s Captain during the African Nations championship, that took place in Cameroon from January 16 to February 07, 2021.
Morocco’s Anas Zniti was handed the best Goalkeeper of the competition by the Confederation of African football, but Djigui Diarra made the cut in the best XI of the competition.
In a recently interview while on club duty in Yaoundé with PWD of Bamenda, Kerrido was asked which goalkeeper impressed him during the CHAN. The shot stopper had just one person in mind, Mali’s Djigui Diarra.
“After our game against them, he sent out voice messages appreciating me. I was so touched. We have the same height. We were in the same hotel and we were discussing everyday.”, said Kerrido.
“I was so impressed by his playing style. He is a leader and he has a very good reading of the game and just like me he plays well with both legs. He is calm and a natural goalkeeper.
The 25_year_old Stade Malien goalie, Djigui Diarra, kept four clean sheets from six games at the CHAN, conceding just three goals (one against Cameroon in the group stage and two against Morocco in the final).
Diarra had previously voiced his admiration of Haschou Kerrido, after both goalies had a spectacular game during their group A meeting.
“Sincerely, that guy is extraordinary. He is short like me, but oh my God he is good. Yesterday, we gave our all, him (Haschou) and me“, said Goalkeeper Djigui Diarra after Cameroon and Mali played a one all tie in the group stage.
