Wales make history by reaching 2023 World Cup playoffs

Wales made history on Tuesday evening as they qualified for the Women’s World Cup playoffs for the very first time following a 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

The result confirmed Wales’ second place finish in Group I behind group winners France and two points ahead of Tuesday evening’s opponents Slovenia – who would have leapfrogged Gemma Grainger’s side with victory.

The match also drew a record crowd for a Wales Women’s match, with 12,741 supporters in attendance at the Cardiff City Stadium. Just 1,700 fans had attended Wales’ first home qualifier of this 2023 World Cup qualifying campaign.
