A first-half hat-trick from four-goal Sam Kerr and goal and assist from Lauren James were the highlights in a masterclass from Chelsea, who booked a place in the Continental Cup final against Arsenal by thrashing West Ham.
Emma Hayes had said her players were “very, very clear about how hard it is going to be to score a goal against West Ham”, with Paul Konchesky’s side having dented Arsenal’s title aspirations by earning a 0-0 draw in the league at the weekend.
They were perhaps as surprised as anyone, then, to take the lead in the fourth minute and be four goals up by half-time….
