Pagou wins tactical battle as PWD holds up Al Ahli

Published

Cameroon league one champions PWD Social football Club of Bamenda has played a zero all tie with Al Ahli Tripoli, in the return leg friendly, at the Tripoli International stadium on Saturday afternoon.

PWD defeated Al Ahli 2#1 in the first leg last Wednesday, and coming into Saturday’s game, coach David Pagou made a tactical shift, opting for a back four, instead of his usual back three formation.

Burinyuy Derrick was recalled into the starting XI after watching Wednesday’s game on the bench. Basile Yamkam was brought to his usual right back position, after operating at a wing forward during Wednesday’s game.

Coach Pagou choosed to sacrifice a Midfielder, Aboubakar Mohammed from his starting XI of last Wednesday, so as to accommodate four at the back. He equally preferred a more technical and pacey Enyegue François to start, while he prepared Mbah Louiz and Fegue Omgba to do the dirty job in the last quarter of the game.

As home side Al Ahli executed a whopping seven substitutions in the game, coach David Pagou stayed calm, and only brought in Fegue Omgba and Mbah Louiz in the last quarter of the game to reinforce his Midfield, sacrificing a wing forward (Tchaoua Leger) and young Midfielder, Enyegue François.

Pagou’s game plan largely centered around staying solid at the back, two holding Midfielders, Ndeh Collins and Vincent Paul Ngondi to cut off the offensive from Al Ahli, while Nchindo John Bosco, Tchaoua Leger and Billy Samin, negotiated all the counter attacks.

PWD’s back four showed great Resilience and a good reading of the game. Nyaba Brian was at the top of his game, as he made a series of goal serving tackles. Burinyuy Derrick was unbeatable in one on one duels.

Leaving Tripoli with a win and a draw from two games, it will not be an overstatement to say that David Pagou has pulled another tactical masterpiece.

Reacting to the game, coach Pagou said;

It was a CAF standard game, so we’re happy for the results. We thank Al Ahli and the Libyian football federation for this opportunity. We will go back to Yaoundé with good memories of Libya”.

The Abakwa Boys return to Cameroon on Sunday and will immediately go camping in Limbe, ahead of their CAF Champions league preliminary round fixture against Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa.

Sports Writer Mysoccer24.com

18_year_old Midfielder, Nchindo John Bosco will captain PWD Social football Club of Bamenda during their return leg Friendly game at the Tripoli International stadium on Saturday afternoon, against Al Ahli Tripoli.

Coach David Pagou has decided to hand the captains armband to the youngster, following his dazzling performance in their previous games.

PWD defeated Al Ahli 2#1 on Wednesday in the first leg. John Bosco’s 14 minute equalizer was the galvanizing force in PWD’s comeback.

The former Ebaidino FC Midfielder was surprisingly handed the armband after Louis Mbah was substituted in the second segment of the game, upon instructions from coach David Pagou.

With Mbah Louiz set to start on the bench in this Saturday’s game, coach Pagou has decided to give the leadership role to the 18_year_old prospect, despite recalling  regular match captain, Burinyuy Derrick into the starting XI. Derrick watched the entire 90 minutes of Wednesday’s game from the bench, as coach Pagou preferred a back three of Boung Joel Ondoa, Ngwang Brian and Hamzat Ibrahim Onotu, and later on brought in Billy Samin for Hamzat.

Nchindo John Bosco has scored four goal in preseason friendlies for PWD this far. He scored two against South Sudan, and one in the international Solidarity tourney – Yaounde, before his equalizer last Wednesday in Tripoli. In total, John Bosco has scored 10 career goals for PWD and provided eight assist, since he joined the club from Ebaidino FC in the 2018_2019 season.

John Bosco has been a revelation from last season. His works have started dragging interest from several categories of the national set-up, the Intermediate Lions being inclusive.

According to inside sources, Pagou’s choice of a match captain depends on a player who understands and transmits his philosophy, and he thinks Nchindo John Bosco is one of them.

With Burinyuy Derrick returning to the starting XI for today’s game, and Billy Samin and Yamkam Basile all starting, coach Pagou is going in for a back four, one of the rare occasions where he has shifted from his usual back three. The last time he effectively used four at the back, was in Limbe back in March, during PWD’s 2#1 over Union Sportive of Douala, where he had Njang Romeo, Boung Joel, Burinyuy Derrick and Basile Yamkam.
