Preview: Taifa ya Jang’ombe Sports Club lost their first encounter and nurse great hope that a victory over Mlandege will help them bounce back into the competition. The latter (Mlandege) are hoping to consolidate their leading position by not losing tonight.
At kickoff, things went fast for both teams. The first goal opportunity came as early as at the 8th minute from Mohd Abdalla Mundo of Mlandege whose sprint from the left flank left the opposing defender in disarray but Mohd was unable to adjust his shot. Taifa responded at the 19th minute as Saîd Salum Aneid’s shot passed a few centimetres besides the goal post of goalkeeper Masuod Kombo of Mlandege. At the 22nd minute, Mlandege continued with a beautiful combination of passes between Omary makame and Khamis Abuu-Tabwe but shot on the goalkeeper who had no problem to get hold of the ball. Taifa dominated the last quarter of the first half but the goal was yet to come.
The second half saw the two teams equate forces as they recorded several offensives but lacked the magic to make the difference.
At the 66th minute, Taifa succeeds in scoring but the goal was denied because of an offside position. A blunder in the Taifa defence at the 77th minute gave Hassan Ramadhan an opportunity to open scores for Mlandege but he squandered it as he shot by the side of the goal nets in a solo position.
The breakthrough finally came at the 80th minute for Taifa with a goal from Baraka Ushidi Mana Mana whose shot was deflected by a defender and goalkeeper Masuod Kombo of Mlandege was beaten.
The final blast of the whistle was a great relief for Taifa fans who had been cheering their team throughout.
