Stade Renard of Melong is one of the 5 clubs from the Littoral region of Cameroon to participate in next season’s MTN ELITE ONE championship.Ahead of next season’s championship, the Melong based club lead by the President, Jean Nkuete is undergoing radical changes in both human and material resources.
In the Human Resource department, Leon Takounte (Jean Pierre Ngue’s assistant before his sacking) who took charge of the team when Ngue left has been replaced by former NQSA,Botafogo FC,Eding FC,Bamboutous,Lion Blesse and New Stars coach,Laurent George Djam.
The club’s key man last season Ledoux Moudoungo has left the club and has been replaced by Alain Giresse Tamo Tinwo alongside at least 5 other signings to be confirmed by the president on Friday.
However, the renovation of the club’s home ground in “Quartier Hausa” is another radical step in the positive direction. The project which started early last year with the reinforcement of the stands for spectators has advanced to the stage where the fences have been made with bapwire separating the pitch from stands. The stadium is now fenced.
President Jean Nkuete‘s mission to make Stade Renard a force to reckon with has made him to invest in tilling and adapting the play ground as well as planting grass which enhances the practice of modern football, ahead of next season.
Stade Renard ended last season in 5th position but the club didn’t suffer a defeat at home in any of its 17 league one games at home. The club’s good home form has been conspicuous in the title race for at least the last 10 years, in the league one championship and Stade Renard is looking forward to capitalising on that.
Clubs with similar records include;Tiko United, whose success in 2009 came without a home defeat,Union Sportive Douala won the league in 2012 with a similar report card,UMS’ title success in 2016 was without a home defeat(Only Eding and Astres left Loum with a draw),Eding most recently displayed the importance of home form in winning the 2017 title. The role of Cotonsport’s home form in her recent league successes has been huge.
With Stade Renard’s Resilience at home in their first league one campaign, betting against them at home in a new look stadium will be a risk; but to say they will not make a statement about the title is the most risky risk especially given that Tiko United and Eding won the league one title in their second elite one season.
