The Nigeria Football Federation have appointed former Sporting Clube coach, Jose Peseiro as the new super eagles coach today Wednesday, but he will take charge only after the AFCON next month.
Earlier this month, NFF sacked Gernot Rohr just few weeks to the AFCON after a shacky World Cup Qualifiers and appointed technical director Augustine Eguavoen as interim coach to the effect.
But after accessing the situation, the football federation decided on Wednesday to appointed the Portuguese national.
“After careful consideration of a memo presented by the chairman of the technical and development sub-committee, the executive committee endorsed a proposal for the appointment of Mr Jose Peseiro as the new head coach of the Super Eagles”, the Nigeria Football Federation said in a statement.
The federation also noted that the Portuguese will only take charge of the team after the AFCON tournament which runs from January 9 to February 6, 2022. This is to enable Peseiro to have a good working relationship with Eguavoen, who will regain back his role as technical director after the tournament.
Eguavon coached Nigeria from 2005-2007.
Peseiro has coached Sporting Lisbon, Braga and Al-Ahly.
Nigeria are in group D alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau.
