Njie Clinton chooses Cameroon history day to make headline amongst trio

Three indomitable Lions made the squad of 18 for the same club(Marseille) in the semi final of the UEFA Europa league for the first time in the history of the competition.In Thursday’s UEFA Europa league collision pitting French side Olymique Marseille and Austrian Bundes Liga side Red Bull Salzburg there was a lot to play for.

Going into the game coach Rudi Garcia’s lack of options at especially the left back position forced the French tactician to dig deep into his pocket and call up Henri Bendimo Nsame whose coming into 18 took the number of Cameroonians to 3 with Njie Clinton Mua and Andre Zambo Anguissa being the other.

Though all 3 Camerooniains started on the bench.It was the first time 3 Cameroonians where involved in the semi finals of the a major European competition.

Njie Clinton Mua whose form this season has been better than in the last 2 campaign had the best moments amongst the trio on the night as he came on as a substitute to score Marseille’s 2nd goal in the tie and give the French giants a huge lead 2-0 nil to protect going into the second leg in Austria.

The goal is Njie Clinton’s first in 9 of Marseille’s 13 Europa league games he has featured in.

The 24 year old who won the AFCON in 2017 with Cameroon but without Zambo and Bendimo is closing in on another major trophy.

Should the trio get to the final of the competition then they will be the first Cameroonian trio to get there and it will be Marseilles’s first European cup final since that got to the final and won it.

Florian Thauvin got Marseille’s opener and Njie’s goal at the 62nd minute may just make him the next Cameroonian to make the final of the prestigious UEFA Europa league, just one year after Andre Onana and Ajax of Amsterdam in 2017.

The second leg of the game comes up in a week time with Marseille hoping to complete the half job and take a date for a great time in Lyon in the finals.

In a related development,former UMS of Loum midfielder, Wamba Marcel had a great midweek in the Mauritian championship as his club RB Bolton beat Savanne by 4 goals to 1 with him putting up a man of the match performance.
