The U17 Africa Cup Of Nations has been cancelled. It was supposed to take place in Morocco from 13 to 31 March 2021. The decision was first aired
by Moroccan television Arryadia in the evening of March 8.
Teams to take part in the competition have had difficulties in securing entry Visas to Morocco, as the North African country looked to protect themselves from the pandemic.
The 2021 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations would have been the 14th edition of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations. In September 2018, it was decided that the tournament would be hosted by Morocco. It was meant to be the first edition in Africa U-17 Cup of Nations to have expanded to 12 teams instead of eight. The top four teams of the tournament would have normally qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru as CAF representatives. However, FIFA decided on 24 December 2020 to cancel the tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision comes in as some sort of a shocker to four nations in Morocco; Ivory Coast, Zambia, Senegal and Uganda.
Morocco has made it a habit to throw in the towel of hosting especially when there’s health danger. This is the second major continental event Morocco are abandoning after the AFCON 2015
