The president of the Cameroon professional football league, General Pierre Semengue, has confirmed that complete day one games of the 2020_2021 football season, will be played on Wednesday November 04, 2020.
Cotonsport defeated Panthere Sportive of Nde 2 # 0 in the League’s opener at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Sunday evening, thanks to goals from Midfield duo Thierry Tchuente and Felix Oukine. Panthère finished the game with 10 men, following Joel Ndzana’s red card.
In an exclusive interview on the Cameroon national television, CRTV, shortly after the League’s opener, general Pierre Semengue, expressed his satisfaction for what he described as a successful kick-off of the championship.
“I am very satisfied that we respected our words, because we told all Cameroonians that we were to start on October 31, but unfortunately it was a day of national mourning, so we programmed the match a day later. The match took place effectively and I hope it will continue without a problem “, General Pierre Semengue told Atta Badyne Oumar on CRTV’s 8:30 pm news cast.
“We really needed to kick off, because we had to respect the decision of the court of arbitration for sports and the minister of sports also said we have to hand over the stadia on December 15, ahead of the CHAN. It is also important for our players especially those in the intermediate lions, to have game time. The other day one games will be played on Wednesday (November 04) “, Pierre Semengue added.
Lots of questions were asked before the opening game, concerning the match officials, as FECAFOOT refused to make available referee’s for that game. The game was finally officiated by Equato Guinean trio of Joaquín, Antonio Eko and José Ramón. General Pierre Semengue explains the decision to bring referees from abroad.
“We could not have referees from FECAFOOT, so we tried to bring in other referees who to my opinion were very qualified. As from tomorrow, we will have to engage all the partners so that we can continue to play and leave problems aside”.
Concerning the Elite two championship, Pierre Semengue assured that kick-off will be given soon, but calls on the collaboration of all the parties involved.
“I’m calling for the collaboration of everyone, so that we can have the same point of view and look forward. I will get in contact with FECAFOOT officials, so that we can do in such a way that matches can be played”.
It was a crowd pulling league opener at Mfandena, as football officially resumes in the country after eight months.
It should be noted that some 19 elite clubs met in Mbankomo on October 29, and reported dissolved the Cameroon professional football league. However, General Pierre Semengue and his LFPC staff have been going on with their activities hitch free, and there are increasing signs that the League’s management body is ready to bring all parties on board for a smooth 2020_2021 season.
According to a purported elite One calendar that has made rounds on the social media for days now, other day one fixtures, will see champions, PWD of Bamenda welcome APEJES, YOSA Vs YAFOOT, Stade Renard Vs Astres, Avion vs Colombe, Fortuna Vs Eding , Bamboutos vs UMS, New Stars Vs Union, and Canon vs Feutcheu. The elite One championship will be played with 21 teams this season, and 42 match days.
