European Football governing body, UEFA has chosen Estadio do Dragão as the new venue to host the 2021 UEFA champions league final between Manchester city and Chelsea.
The final which was to take place at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey was changed due to preasure from the British government.
The British government claims that, Turkey is has been placed on the COVID-19 red list and was pushing the game to be played in England.
But following the failure to achieve the necessary exceptions from the UK quarantine arrangements, UEFA decided to take the final to the Estadio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal with a capacity of 50000.
This Will be the second successive year, the champions league final will be played in Portugal, and it will also be the second successive year, the champions league final is taking away from Istanbul for the same circumstances.
The football governing body is in talks with the Portuguese government to allow 20000 persons to attend the final, with 6000 tickets for fans of each of the two clubs involved, while arrangements for Tickets sales is set for May 24th.
Manchester city will be playing their first ever UEFA champions league final after seeing off PSG 4-1 on aggregate in the semis, while Chelsea beat the competition’s most successful side Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate to book their their third UEFA champions final in the club’s history.
