The boss met with press men and gave a rundown of the clubs’ activities in the CAF Confederation Cup so far, on Tuesday afternoon.

President Fernand Sadou speaks;

From our recruitments, we told all and sundry that we were going to put up a competitive team. I think we have a good team already. Without the local championship, we had to find ways for players to get game time, with friendlies. The results we wanted are following suit. We defeated UFC Sokode, Green Eagles and AS Sonidep in the preliminaries. Our Algeria trip was difficult due to Covid19 restrictions, the main reason why we lost to JS Kabylie by 1-0. I think positively of this team. They will make us proud.

We started the competition with a squad depth of 35 players (10 defenders, 11 midfielders, 10 forwards, and 4 goalies). The fourth recruited goalie was came in not so long ago. All this shows that we have put in place everything.

We however have had issues along the way, as Covid19 has gripped some of our key players.

After the president’s rundown, mysoccer24.com posed him a couple of questions;

Q: Cotonsport travels to Zambia on April 2 to face NAPA. Have flight issues already been attended to?

Answer

We have organised for the zambia trip already. Dispositions have already been taken. We have made our flight reservations as well. We are on a good traveling footing this time. All that is left, is for us to finalize processes.

Our main problem with the flight to Algeria was the unavailability of commercial flights. We did all with Camairco so we could go play in Algeria. It cost us a lot, but we don’t mind. Our objective was to go and represent our country.

Q: It is two years since Cotonsport got to this level (group stage of a CAF club competition), has the team not already achieved a lot?

Answer

We are not just elated with the group stage appearance. We want to go as far as possible. I have spoken to the players to give their all, more than what they did in Algeria.

This is Cotonsport’s first appearance in any CAF club competition since 2017. The last participation for the Cotonites saw them eliminated as bottom of their group in the CAF Champions league, in a group consisting of Zanaco, Al Ahly and Wydad Athletic Club.
