Barely 48 hours after their elimination from the Confed cup, Egyptian giants Pyramids have appointed Takis Gonias as their new coach, replacing Rodolfo Arruabarrena.
Takis Gonias replaces Arruabarrena who was at the helm of the club since November last year. He took charge of 37 games for the club recording 18 wins, 12 draws and seven defeats.
Arruabarrena’s recent semi final exit in the Confed cup by Raja Casablanca was his final nail on his coffin, as coach of Pyramids.
Arruabarrena’s replacement is Takis Gonias from Greece. This is his second spell in Egyptian football, having been the coach of Wadi Degla and was sacked in February 2020.
With his attractive transition football, he guided Wadi Degla to 10th in 2019, but struggled in the second season which led to his sack.
Gonias debut is against old time rivals Al Ahly in the league. His record against All Ahly has been poor (3 defeats, conceding 6, scoring just one).
He has had spells with Greek sides AO Glyfado, AO Episkopi Rethymnou and GS Kallithea.
