David Pagou reassures PWD fans

Afeseh Apong,

Sports Writer

The head coach of Cameroon league one champions, PWD of Bamenda, David Pagou is confident that his appointment as deputy coach of Cameroon’s intermediate lions, will not very much affect his job as PWD’s lead trainer.

50_year_old David Pagou was appointed deputy coach of the intermediate lions on Wednesday afternoon, following as decision from a joint MINSEP _FECAFOOT meeting. He will work hand in hand with Martin Ndtoungou Mpile and Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso, to make sure that the intermediate lions are ready for the African Nations championship to take place from January 16, 2021, in Cameroon.

In an exclusive interview with, David Pagou described his appointment as a promotion.

I am happy because I have been promoted, because it is a promotion, from a club to a national selection. I received it with lots of joy and satisfaction because all the work we do everyday, have been compensated”

Since news of his appointment came out on Wednesday, there has been lots of reactions from PWD fans and football lovers, who believed the appointment came at a wrong time, given that Pagou and his PWD side have been actively preparing for the African Champions league. The tactician is however confident that with the collaboration of his technical staff and PWD’s management, the task will be easy.

It is true that there is a problem, but I am counting on my hierarchy and especially on my collaborators at PWD, who during my absence will do the job“, David Pagou told this portal.

He added “CHAN is in January and the Championship will be halted, which is an advantage for me. It is true that there is preparations to be done before the CHAN, but when you look at the words of the minister of sports, in mid December, the Championship will be halted and the stadia put at the disposal of CAF. So it will give me time to concentrate with the intermediate lions”.

There could have been a problem if I didn’t have confidence in my collaborators, but that’s not the case. So I think we will manage it and after the CHAN we will focus solely on PWD. Tama Wango (Technical Director of PWD), and Coach Mayo (Goalkeeper’s coach), the master very well my state of mind and the spirit I want to inculcate in my players. So they will continue in that spirit, whenever I am absent“, said Pagou.

David Pagou extended his PWD stay till June 2021.
